Gosh, I can’t stop gushing about servers and customer seated across from us: They gave my newly wed cousin marital advice, engaged in playful banter and we’re kind enough to take phone pics for us (I mean our server even stood on a chair to get a perfect aerial view of our entire family).
BUT, about the food… Starting with the big draw: the pancake that’s the size of a Domino’s medium pizza. If you’re Texan or believe bigger is better, you’ll love this over the top signature breakfast dish that puts the grande in Casagrandes. However, you may want to ask them to cook it a little longer; the center of one we ordered had some undercooked batter-ry spots which is kinda unforgivable when it comes to pancakes, but like I said, the folks here are so gosh darn nice that I’m not going to publicly criticize the pancake.
I’m also not going to criticize the country fried steak. I took a few bites and immediately felt it put me in an MMA submission hold. I didn’t finish my eggs either.
High points were the country potatoes, which I liked the seasoning of, and the free coffee refills.
I tasted my cousin’s French toast. The presentation was excellent, visually inviting. But taste, and this is matter of preference, I don’t like a strong egg taste in my French toast. I believe you should use egg but never taste egg. But for those that like eggy French toast, I’d recommend ordering this over the medium pizza pancake.
Casagrandes is a good local place to go for coffee and conversation and for a few select breakfast food items. Mine would be: toast, butter, country potatoes with Cholula hot sauce, sausage links and a few cups of coffee. But if your breakfast expectations are a bit more grande, you may have to go elsewhere.
Sidenote: Not sure why, but drinks served here came in a BBD glass, a place that I rated 2 stars and will never go to again. I’d go back to Casagrandes though, but not go out of my way to do so; if I happened to pass by in the morning (they’re only open for breakfast hours), I’d definitely stop in for some coffee and chit-chat.
Tri Tip Hash was delicious. Good pepper, just enough salt, and the eggs were cooked to a perfect Over Medium. Most places don’t know how to cook an egg Over Medium It either comes out as Over Easy or Over Hard. Compliments to whoever was on the griddle.
She even asked if she could get some treats for my service dog. I appreciate both the kindness and the fact that she asked first. Great form.
I’ll be back if I ever want breakfast in the area again.
