Social Profile:

After 50 Years my customers still tell me what a deligthful discovery it is to step out of a Boston alley into the heart of Mexico. That is exactly what I had envisioned when I decorated the coffered door and walls of my restaurant with bright talavera tiles from Puebla, Mexico. Leo Romero

Refined Mexican food & tequila supplied in tucked-away mainstay with traditional decor from Mexico.

My wife and I went for an early dinner late lunch around 3:30pm, it is truly a cool spot down under in an alley of newbury street. The atmosphere is nice and they play some nice well known mariachi and cumbia songs. The al pastor tacos were delicious and the pozole and sopes chorizo were delicious as well. Nothing is very spicy that we had, was thinking the salsa would be spicy but it wasn’t. They had micheladas and some classic beers, modelo and Pacifico, which were good. Overall, the food was excellent and wait staff very nice. However, my honest opinion, I would say this place is pretty far from tasting authentic, my wife is from CDMX and we travel there often, and the food is still very Americanized, but it tastes good! just don’t expect it to taste like CDMX.

The atmosphere here is incredible hidden on a small alley being brought underground is a very cool experience.

In regards to the food it is amazing perfect blend of spices and others.

You need a reservation for sure though.

Unnecessary pricing – they are taking $4 for appreciating the kitchen and want a tip on top of that.
Not the friendliest staff, BANG AVERAGE food.
The quesadillas were boiled chicken and tortilla with salsa on the side.

Probably hurting Boston’s reputation of good, friendly service with above average food.

Came here for dinner with an out of town guest and it was lovely! The decor and location is so unique while the food definitely delivers and packs a punch. So do their drinks! The guac and ships were both clearly freshly made on site

Holy mid. Expensive and not even that good. Small portions and flavors not unlike food I’ve had for half the price. I also wasn’t a fan of the way they ask if we’d like to “get started with some chips and salsa” which I should’ve known was asking my permission to sell, but for such an established and well liked restaurant I don’t appreciate the games being played. Service didn’t feel particularly welcoming either. A spot for wealthy Bostonians looking for a novel restaurant with “underground” vibes.

We ate at Casa Romero in Back Bay last night. We all enjoyed it. The food, the service and maybe most importantly the hospitality all 5 star. One in party had the mushroom quesadilla (served as an app but big enough for an entree), one had the large ceviche. As good as ever after all these years on the menu. Two of us had the tacos pastore. Three delightful small tacos with pork and peppers. All delicious. This place has been there for 50 years and it’s easy to see why they have succeeded for so long. Compliments to everyone we encountered but special thanks to Omar our server for his gracious service.

First time here and will definitely be coming back. Loved the vibe of this place and the music and drinks were great. Waiter was cool and really explained the menu very well and tried some really great options. Had Apps, dinner and dessert and was so happy with all the items. It’s a little pricey but the quality of the food you cannot beat. Will be recommending this place to family and friends to come on by and get some awesome food!

We were here on a Friday night, and the place was packed and pretty loud. We had a table of 7, which was tight and kinda of in a way of passing to another room. The food was fresh and tasty. The drinks were really great too. The tuna in tuna tacos was fantastic. The flan was a little bland, but the churros were delicious. The guacamole was pretty great too. The flan did not have much flavor of caramel, nor was it any sweet.

Super cute tucked away spot off Newbury! It’s a 53 year old classic establishment. We got lucky, walked in and snagged a table at the perfect time. Great classic Mexican food, salsa and chips. Tried mole for the first time!

Positives: upbeat vibe and atmosphere, proper Mexico City vibe, margaritas were ok but nothing impressive.
Negatives: many negatives here. Service was mediocre, they try to add and upsell many things. We were offered chips and salsa right when we got seated before we got menus, waitress made it sound complimentary, but there was a charge for it. We asked for hot sauce on the side but that’s a charge of $4, another $3 if you order cheese on your fajitas. All these charges were never communicated until the final bill. It was written in small font on the menu but it should be communicated to the customer. Food was ok but not worth the price. Limited vegetarian options so go elsewhere if you are vegetarian or vegan.
