Finally tried Casa Frida. I ordered the mar y tierra and really enjoyed the sauce, it was flavorful and brought the whole dish together. The meat was soft and the portion was filling. The shrimp did come with the skin on, and some of it was stuck pretty tight, making it a little hard to peel while eating. Not a dealbreaker, just something to note. The beans were good but could’ve used a little more salt, nothing crazy. The rice isn’t like fiesta-style rice, but it was still fluffy, soft, and flavorful. The mango Viva La Vida drink was delicious and honestly one of the highlights of the night, it was refreshing and full of flavor. Service was good and attentive, and they also had mariachi, which made the experience even better and added to the overall vibe. Overall, solid food, good drinks, and a fun atmosphere. I’d definitely come back.

I ordered the Camarones Frida, which is a dish with butterflied sautéed shrimp that is topped with garlic butter and spicy Frida sauce at this new restaurant in Merced! The shrimp was cooked super good in my opinion, and the sauce was a good spice and was flavorful! The Mexican rice was placed cutely on the plate, so great presentation! The beans also gave a fulfilling touch to the meal 🙂 I enjoyed the salad, which had a yummy dressing to it! My boyfriend got the Pollo à la Crema “Suspiros del Bosque”, which were chicken breast strips sauteed with onions, fresh roasted pasilla chile strips, mushrooms and jalapenos in a white cream sauce that was also served with rice, beans, and tortillas! It was definitely a nice sauce, and not something you would usually find at a normal restaurant! The vibes here were great, and on a Sunday night, they even had a mariachi band play some live music! The interior was really aesthetic, especially for Merced! I’ll definitely be coming here again! ❤️

It took a bit to get us seated despite it not being all that busy, but the host and waitress were quite nice. Perhaps they are still getting some workflow figured out?
The food took a bit to come out but not crazy long, maybe 15 min or so for the rolls.
Ordered a few maki rolls to try stuff out. The hot cheetos roll was visually pretty good but didn’t have much hot cheeto taste or any really specific interesting taste. It was pretty crunchy but overall rather bland on the inside. The other roll we got was the one with steak inside (forgot the name). The waitress had suggested it. Unfortunately the first time it came, it did not have any steak in it. They were fine with sending out another one with the right stuff which was nice. They admitted fault and corrected.
But the rolls tasted pretty much the same. They were both seasoned with almost exactly the same on top and the insides were bland enough that there wasn’t much difference apart from texture between the rolls.
For main course I got was a cajun dish of some sort while my friend got the omelette. Perhaps not the best choices for mexican/japanese fusion place but whatever.
The cajun dish was visually quite appealing. But the bowl made it rather difficult to eat. It felt like stuff could drop everywhere if not careful. The dish itself was extremely salty. Not much spiciness. I’m not an expert on cajun dishes, but there wasnt much complexity in the spices just saltiness.
My friend on the other hand complained the opposite for the omelette. Rather bland without enough salt. The potatoes were reasonably well seasoned though.
Overall a bit disappointing especially given the price, but I guess not that bad for Merced?

The presentation was beautiful and the atmosphere is great, very clean with a modern casita feel and a warm vibe. The food itself was just okay, not bad at all but missing a bit of flavor and seasoning. I had the birria tacos and my husband had sushi and we both felt the same way. While eating we noticed a few tables being cleared with quite a bit of food left on the plates. The standout part of the experience was definitely the customer service. The staff was welcoming, attentive, and made us feel comfortable the entire time. We would go back if we were in the area.

The food was delicious. We got the guacamole with chicharron (ask for it, it’s on their ig but not their menu and was delicious), and I ordered the pollo chipotle plate. It was really good. Rice was on point and the sauce flavor was absolutely fire. My friends got different entrees and the sauces and flavor were all phenomenal. The service was good for how busy they were. They had multiple birthdays, some with 15+ people so they really did the best they could and brought our food out as fast as they could. The also let us know it would be a bit longer because of the big party’s ahead of us.
I didn’t love the flavor of their michelada and I wish we would have had water refills.
Overall, will definitely be back. It’s a hot spot!

Absolutely horrible experience. Ordered drinks as soon as we sat down. They never came. Server got our order wrong. Food took forever to come out. Rice was overcooked and the food tasted bland. Overall a terrible experience.

The food was okay, went in yesterday with a party of 7 (including 2 kids, so 5 adults) sat us down and waited about 10 minutes before we were even asked to order drinks, ordered the hot Cheeto Sushi Roll and it was not very good, had no flavor, and wasn’t even correctly served ( I had asked for no sauces on top). The server never came to ask for refills on drinks nor did they check on our table the entire time we were there! The bill comes and we realized it was a whole lot more then we expected, we starting looking over the bill and realize that they charged $30 Service fee. When you have a party of 5 or more including kids they charge a service fee, but this was NEVER mentioned at any point of the time we were there, nor was it anywhere else around the restaurant. Just be careful when coming here things like this should be mentioned before being sat down, and not by surprise at the end!
