Carrello Restaurant is located at 622 Broadway East in Seattle’s vibrant Capitol Hill neighborhood. Chef Nathan Lockwood opened Carrello with his wife Rebecca to combine the flavors of Italy with the vibrant and creative style of the restaurant. The Lockwood’s opened Carrello across the street from the their original restaurant, Altura, as a more casual alternative to share with guests the seasonal, and familial generosity of Italian dining. The diversity of the menu, from small bites to whole-roasted meats and seafood reminds us dining out can be interactive and playful.
Handmade pastas, meat dishes & small plates in a rustic-chic space that also offers 5-course family-style meals.

I really appreciated how accommodating they were with my partner’s dietary restrictions (celiac). Since the last time I was here, I also noticed a few new dishes on the menu, which was nice to see.
The servers gave us a solid wine recommendation and took the time to walk us through the dishes and how they were presented. The lamb dish and the pork chop were both excellent — honestly, not something I’ve found elsewhere.
I like the Italian feel of the place, but what I appreciate most is how many local products they use. You can tell they care, and it shows.
The truly unforgettable part of the night was our server, who was quite a character. When I mispronounced “sourdough” while ordering, he made it a point to explicitly correct me. Then, he insisted we were ordering way too much food and wouldn’t be able to finish our entrees. We ordered them anyway, and when we completely cleared our plates, he was visibly shocked. My husband explained we were starving after a day of snowboarding, to which the server proudly replied that he skis because “snowboarding is too easy.”
Overall, decent food, but be prepared to get a side of unsolicited opinions and judgment with your meal!
The service was friendly and welcoming from the moment we walked in. The servers were attentive and made sure to check on us consistently throughout the meal. You can tell they genuinely care about their guests and want everything to be perfect. That said, in my opinion, they checked in a bit too frequently — our conversations were interrupted several times. While I appreciate attentiveness, a little more space would have made the experience feel more relaxed.
Here’s what we ordered:
• Housemade Burrata – Everything was amazing at first. The burrata was creamy and fresh, and all the flavors worked beautifully together. However, the anchovy was extremely fishy and completely overpowered the dish, throwing off the balance of the otherwise delicious components.
• Upside Down Chili Cheese Tripe Fries – This was amazing. The fries were crispy on the outside but soft and moist inside. The sauce was rich and flavorful — I especially loved the parmesan fonduta. Definitely one of my favorite dishes of the night.
• Shrimp and Scallop Pansotti – The spicy Dungeness crab brodo really elevated this dish. Such an amazing combination of seafood flavors with a nice kick of heat.
• Spaghetti alla Chittara – The garlic paired beautifully with the parmesan, giving the dish so much depth of flavor. The clams were well cooked — not dry or overcooked — and the chili was added perfectly to tie everything together.
Overall, the food was good and thoughtfully prepared, but not quite outstanding enough for 5 stars. Still, I would come back to try other dishes because the menu is creative, the vibe is great, and the team clearly cares about providing a good experience.
We opted for a vegetarian (no mushrooms) meal and woah, it was nothing short of amazing – with portions so large, we had to take home leftovers because we possibly couldn’t have more.
Highly recommend for vegetarians looking for a menu that doesn’t try to look and taste like the equivalent meat option, but rather is uniquely flavorful.
My favorite was the pasta – which had corn prepared in so many different ways!
