I’ll start by saying that our hostess and the general atmosphere of the restaurant were both very good. Our seating was comfortable. The lightning was just right. The decor was interesting but no distracting. The experience started off on track to be great. Where things took a turn for the worse was when our server got involved.
Our server was wholly unmotivated and inattentive. It was an exercise in frustration to get a drink refilled. Our bread was fresh and tasty, but it was sadly the highlight of our meal.
Every part of the meal was lacking. The salad was too light on dressing. The soup had no seasoning in it or at least not enough to taste. I felt like I was eating straight vegetable broth with a few chicken chunks in it. The meatballs were dry and cold in the middle. The only non-bread item that was enjoyable was the stuffed mushrooms. Even the tiramasu was disappointing. The whole slice was completely saturated into one cohesive mush. There was no texture contrast at all, not even the slight crunch from the lady fingers.
I hate to say this about this place because I remember how much I enjoyed it years ago, but I cannot recommend it anymore. It is going to be quite some time before I’ll try it again. There obviously are management issues to address and standards that need to be raised.
The service: We were seated next to a large party (I counted 25 at one point and they were still arriving) that took the entire length of the left dinning room. Our table was so packed in that the back of the chairs for that party were hitting the side of our table. What is worse is that Carrabba’s didn’t assign a designated server and we were sharing one. She did her best, but our service was lacking. While she was taking their orders our tea glasses got empty snd stayed empty for a long time. We had asked for another loaf of bread and it never came. At one point, we called over the host and asked him to get refills for us. Overall, the party of 30-ish(?) understandably kept her so busy, that she wasn’t able to check on us. Let me be clear here…the service issue was NOT the server’s fault, but was management’s! There should have been an assigned server (maybe two!) for that table. Given the way it was handled, management should have been hovering offering assistance. We never saw a manager!
Our food: Our food came out so quickly that we had no opportunity to enjoy one course before the next one arrived. My perception is they were trying to ensure our food got out before the large party’s. A nice gesture, but made for a very rushed meal. My son’s and husband’s meals were good, but my chicken parmesan should never have been served to me. The cheese on the top was so burned that I had to just pull it off and eat the chicken without it. One piece had been pretty badly singed on the bottom. I would have sent it back, but our server was still taking the large party’s orders and they were taking their time. And … management was nowhere to be found.
Overall, this was not a good night for Carrabba’s. We will be back, because (as I said) we typically enjoy the brand. I was very disappointed though in this visit! The next time they plan for a party of 30, they should not cram in other tables around them; the large party should have a designated server(s); and management should be visible.
When I asked the cashier, they kept saying it would be “another 10 minutes” because the kitchen was behind. This happened multiple times. If they had informed me while placing the order that it would take close to an hour, I would have simply canceled it.
Waiting that long for just two sides with no clear communication is very frustrating. I hope they improve their order management and give customers honest wait times in the future.
The place was pretty clean, the food was great!!! Just wish the host staff could have been more helpful for clearing tables and assisting the servers. I’m quite sure we sat for a solid 10 min just waiting for our server to get our order.
