The food is a 10/10 every single time. I usually go for the Meatball Sub or the Siciliano, & the portions are absolutely huge for the price. You can’t leave w/o a cannoli or some tiramisu! It’s the perfect authentic finish. Between the immaculate service & those delicious sandwiches, it’s easily one of my favorite spots in the city. If you want a real Italian deli experience, then this is the only place to go.
The pros: Nice bakery, deli and grocery options. The Italian Beef sandwhich was tasty and the bread was fantastic. Even driving back home, the bread never became soggy. We also love the grocery options and bought several things.
The cons: Gal at the front counter wasn’t/isn’t customer friendly and there were only a few patrons in the store. My biggest gripe has to do with consumer pricing. A digital menu showed $7.95, yet my sandwhich was $10.95. It is worth it at the higher price, but it felt like bait and switch. (Only thing included was a tiny bag of chips that I would prefer to skip)
Sadly, the limencello cake was out. The Napoleon was dry and mostly without flavor (for the price). The Cannoli and other cookies were really nice though. While barely a 4 star visit this time, I still plan to go back more frequently. That’s how much we like and appreciate Carollo’s.
Everything is grilled right there in front of you. Great taste, big portions. Everyone is friendly.
Tables all around outside, great for people watching as your eat.
I’d forgotten how amazing their sandwiches are. True Italian style deli in the heart of the city.
Ps. I also miss your oil cured olives
Carollo’s Grocery and Deli is a haven for Italian food enthusiasts, and I must say, it truly delivers a delightful experience. The gelatos offered here are well-made, boasting a variety of delicious flavors that are sure to satisfy your sweet tooth. Priced at $3-5, depending on the number of scoops, they offer a refreshing treat at a reasonable cost. The grocery section showcases an authentic Italian selection, providing a range of culinary treasures to explore. When it comes to sandwiches, Carollo’s does not disappoint. The flavors are on point, leaving your taste buds craving more. While the bread is decent, it complements the fillings nicely, creating a satisfying combination. Overall, Carollo’s Grocery and Deli is a must-visit for those seeking an Italian culinary adventure in the river market.
