We found Carolina Wine Merchants by chance at their former location and had a wonderful time (and fell in love with a wine that we now order from Jake by the case). When they moved downtown we were so excited to check out their new location and it did not disappoint. Joy lived up to her name and we’re looking forward to making the Wine Bar part of a regular date night. (Getting to catch up with Jake as well was fabulous.)

Buyer BEWARE! Jake Jacobs uses bait & switch practices. I verbally placed an order with Jacobs. Specifically ordered a wine from his website and was sent a different wine. When I contacted him regarding the issue he said it was an error on HIS website that he didn’t do his own postings/ design. He reluctantly agreed to accept the wine being returned (again his mistake) but insisted that I pay the shipping. So I was sent wine that I could buy locally for less $$ and had to pay for shipping and to add insult to injury, was expected to pay the shipping for an incorrect product to be returned….it wasn’t the wine I ordered! Mr. Jacobs is dishonest and despicable! So disappointed in his unprofessionalism! Additionally, believes I should have shared in the responsibility for his incorrect advertising!

We went to the Saturday wine tasting and had a wonderful experience. It completely changed my perspective and was very educational. Great tasting wine paired with appetizers and conversations with the owner. Mr. Jacobs was delightful and accommodating. Can’t wait to go again!

I’ve known Carolina Wine Merchant and its owner Jake for around four years now. In that time I’ve seen a hundred + people of all types walk into the shop. He treats every person with respect when they walk in the door. His selection is unparalleled in the area, and he has decades of experience. I walked in to inquire about “sweet, fruity” wine because that has been my favorite in the past, I told the owner I did not like dry wine. The owner was totally rude asking if I even knew what dry wine was and proceeded to “educate me” on what dry wine is. While he was talking a Caucasian customer walked in and he immediately turned his attention towards her and ignored us while I am standing there in front of the register. We are of Hispanic and African American descent and I will never set foot in this place again. You can plainly see this man is racist and did not want to do business with us. What a horrible experience. If I could give zero stars I would!

I live in the New York City area and buy from CWM all the time. They offer a wide range of great value priced wines and also get their hands on some wonderful grower Champagnes. Shipping is zero problems and they will hold for weather. Highly Recommend!
