This is legit my favorite bagel in Columbia and has been for the past 17 years. I get the sundried tomato with garlic herb cream cheese. Their coffee is delectable, sourced from Dilworths out of Georgia. They do one caffeinated and one decaf flavor per day BUT the real gold is you can buy them to go by the pound ($20ish), already ground or whole bean. The creme brulee invigorates my soul and has become my daily coffee. Other favorites are tiramisu and southern pecan and they have a few flavors prepackaged ready to go. They are seriously great as gifts! The employees are always lovely to interact with. Seating is plentiful but parking a little tricky downtown next to campus. PS you save a little change if you pay cash. But seriously, I wouldn’t recommend anywhere else for a bagel in Columbia!

Carolina Cafe is hands down the best bagel shop in Columbia! Their bagels are always fresh, perfectly toasted, and packed with flavor. The sausage, egg, and cheese on a pitted toasted sesame bagel is my favorite go to breakfast sandwich. For lunch, their homemade tuna salad is amazing, fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. They also have delicious salads, soups, and a variety of sandwiches that make it hard to choose just one favorite. The food is consistently amazing, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff is always friendly. Columbia is lucky to have this gem!

I ordered the diet plate, which is a plate of fruit with a scoop of chicken salad. I ordered online and picked it up. The cantaloupe is so spoiled, it’s fuzzy. I lay blame not only on the person who made the salad but also on the person who put my food together. I didn’t have time to go back to the restaurant, so I called from my office. They said, “I’m sorry for the inconvenience” and made no offer of a refund or future credit. I usually love this place, but not today. Today, you ruined my lunch and didn’t even care enough to offer a correction of any kind. Horrible customer service.

I really like Carolina Café. During the semester, I stop almost every morning to have coffee before heading to class. The atmosphere is always welcoming, and the staff is very friendly, communicative, and always has a smile on their face, which makes the experience even more enjoyable. Additionally, the quality of the coffee is excellent, which makes my day start even better. I highly recommend it!

I have been coming here for quite some time, love the bagels and chocolate croissants as a good pick-me-up before class or lunch. However, a recent visit really disappointed me, and it was no fault of the food or service. This was the first time I happened to see the owner, and I was shocked that he was screaming at employees in front of customers, which is unprofessional, uncomfortable, and unnecessary. It completely changed the vibe of the place and other customers seemed off put by it as well. The staff, and especially the ones I consistently see there deserve nothing but the utmost respect. Even if there were issues, they should have been handled privately, and calmly.

To the owner, I sincerely hope you see this and reflect.

I ordered a BLT on everything Begal, and a muffin. The bagel was not toasted as requested nor was the muffin the Begel tasted old and rubbery the muffin was dry. Never experienced nothing like this before.

I’ve lived in Columbia for 5 years and have FINALLY been able to try this place. Conveniently located between the state house, campus, and some student apartment living. Parking can be challenging but it’s a great place to go prior, during, or after church…

The food: it’s priced great. It taste… good. It’s a bagel for crying out loud, not a Michelin star meal! Diverse menu options with how many bagels you can get. I went with a classic Lake Murray: Locks, Capers, and Cream Cheese and onions. It ain’t my NJ girlfriends mothers, but it will DO.

The coffee was actually astounding. I was delightfully surprised by how good their coffee was. Felt like a Folgers commercial moment.

The atmosphere: I’ve only seen lines wrapped around the door as if it’s a job fair in the 1930s, but on this unbusy Sunday, it was homey. I believe the place could do some interior upgrades. Some good trim on the walls covering holes, a new paint schemes of something to match that green base. Ceiling tiles? Open it up…

Carolina Cafe, it was solid. Would def recommend for anyone in Columbia wanting a local spot that likes bagels and coffee
