I’m still crying tears of joy. I’ve lived in the cities for years and I definitely thought the taco scene just sucked, but this place is the real deal. Absolutely loaded tacos de carnitas were fire and excellent salsa for super cheap

This taco spot is incredible! The flavors are bold, authentic, and absolutely delicious. The tortillas taste freshly made, the meats are perfectly seasoned, and the salsas bring just the right amount of heat and flavor. You can tell they put a lot of care into every taco.

Would highly recommend their carnitas, especially if you like the fatty portions of the meat. I was asked if I wanted that included and thank god I said yes.

I was mind blown at how great all of the food tasted. This restaurant is authentic, legit, and the best Mexican restaurant in MN. I’ve been to many and rarely have I been so impressed at all of the food a single place has to offer. The flavoring of everything had so much depbt and I can’t wait to go back for more. I ordered $90 worth of food and about one of everything on the menu . There wasn’t a single item that was okay. I literally mean everything was near the top or the best I’ve eaten when compared to all of it’s competition.
I highly recommended so I’m so happy it’s only a few blocks from my place.

We liked the food , but my rating isn’t much about the food , rather the service we got this past weekend. The good is very tasteful and we liked the carnitas a lot. The only thing I would recommend is to have better organization when giving out the food. Thats what lead to a very distasteful situation on our visit. That day it was very busy and multiple orders were getting called out and being placed on the counter at the same time. We had ordered menudo( mexican stew ) add carnitas along with an order of tortillas( which only has 3 tortillas by the way) anyway , I heard our number and part of our order got brought out, our carnitas and tortillas. After that our number again got called and this time our drinks got put there with others people’s things. Everything was going good until our last item( stew) came out. As reference, menudo is always served with tortillas on the side, so when my menudo came out and I saw tortillas right by it , I took both Items to our table. By this time everything was accounted for. We were having a good time enjoying our food when all of the sudden this girls just walked up all on us with a bad attitude , not even saying ” excuse me for interrupting your meal” or a simple “hello” or ” provecho” which is only the polite thing to do when ypu interrup somebody, especially while they are having a conversation and enjoying a meal. She just came up and said in a stuck up way
” ok, you guys took food that wasnt yours, why do you have two orders of tortillas?” Youre only supposed to take one and you got two, im going to need them back, and there has to be three on there. Let me see your reciep and also the salsas ” we were caught off guard since we were having a conversation and enjoying our meal. We responded with
” what are you talking about we got everything we ordered. We got tortillas for our carnitas and the menudo” . of course we weren’t trying to take nobody else’s food or an order of 3 dollar tortillas intentionally. The point of all this is that the attitude and arrogance she approach with , we’re uncalled for. After we tried to explain what happened amd how easily it is to get confused she pointed to a little roll of foiled paper almost under the plate of menudo that had tiny tortillas in it. I guess that was our second order of tortillas and not the ones I took that were sitting alone with my stew. To all this before that , she asked for the tortillas and literally opened the foil to count them right in our table, making us feel like we were dishonest people or trying to steal a simple order of tortillas. After we were going back and forth we said we had no problem paying for them , to just charge us for them, but to also pay attention how they handle out food because it can get confusing. While going through all this , other customers were listening and one said” dont listen to her, they get it wrong all the time ” well this girl did not take that well and very disrespecting told the man
” you dont even know whats going on , so dont say anything” ,pretty much told him tho shut up and mind his business. After that she proceeded to tell us if we didnt like it maybe we wanted to talk to the owner. We know our culture and that was a strategy to try and intimidate us. She probably thought we were going to say , no thank you and back down. We immediately said YES PLEASE GET HIM HERE!. took a few minutes and the gentleman finally made it out to our table. Come to find out the owner was the father of this girl. Long story short , the guy did not take her side and told her nmto never put her hands on people food. She didnt like that either clearly. Needless to say that ruin our experience and meal. After that she kept mean mugging us from the counter and clearly whispering among other workers. This girl needs to learn how to aproach customers , specially being the owners daughter. She should set the example and try and make a dining experience a good one rather than being arrogant and disrespectful.

Today’s taco stop took me to Carnitas Don Tacho in St. Paul — a humble little spot that feels like it was pulled straight from the streets of Mexico and dropped onto the East Side. If you’re searching for tacos that don’t need to be dressed up with gimmicks or gourmet buzzwords, this is your place.

I ordered two carnitas tacos, one pork belly, and one asada. Each came nestled in warm, double-layered corn tortillas with just enough toast to hold their own — no tearing, no soggy fold, just sturdy, chewy goodness. The meat? Juicy, flavorful, and portioned in a way that made me smile. One of my favorite ways to judge a taco is by the pickup test: when you grab it, does a little meat spill out? If so, that taco is speaking to you — whispering, “There’s more where that came from.” These tacos had plenty to say.

On top came a few crisp radish slices for texture and refreshment, plus a generous handful of lime wedges — not just one sad sliver like some places hand out. Two salsas came with the tacos: a fiery red that bites back, and a smooth, mild green that cools things down. I alternated bites like a spicy tango, chasing heat with a little lime and verde relief.

I also treated myself to a fancy Mexican Coke in the glass bottle — because when you’re eating tacos this legit, it just feels right. But for those keeping score, I didn’t include that in the cost breakdown. Without drinks, we paid about $20 for six tacos — a total steal for the quality and portion size.

Carnitas Don Tacho isn’t trying to reinvent anything — they’re sticking to the roots, and that’s exactly what makes them great. If you’re in St. Paul and craving the kind of taco that tastes like it came from a roadside taquería in Jalisco, this spot should be on your list.

We love this place! Great food and great people! Sad they are temporarily closed for the safety of their staff and visitors. We hope they come back soon.

Awesome food, service was great and they were slammed crazy style. Only problem is its not the best part of town for tourists so I’d be mindful of that, I was also the sore thumb standing out in the area ha. Would definitely recommend, great food!

First time here I was very excited about trying the carnitas. Very disappointed carnitas were cold and dry they said they were Michoacán-style carnitas and nothing similar with Michoacán-style carnitas. I have been a food tester part of my life and have always liked to eat in restaurants around country And I decided to try this one because they said Michoacán style carnitas, and in the state of Minnesota, no one makes good carnitas And they are no exception The majority of people who leave good reviews are people who don’t know about good mexican food , people who put anything in their mouths. I’m sorry, it’s painful but it’s true. I will return to eat in the future. I hope they improve a little..

A little note fot the owner all the cooks in the kitchen were not wearing aprons. I think it’s not a good look for the restaurant. Thanks and see you guys soon
