Reviews
The place is pretty and airy as it has an open air concept. There is no designated parking, only street parking, so keep that in mind.
Highly recommend this place. I will definitely again.
Pet friendly, the restaurant is a covered outdoor patio, very colorful and cozy. All the staff is hospitable, welcoming and super accommodating.
Atmosphere feels like Mexico. Server despite being alone was attentive, friendly, welcoming …and she didn’t neglect a single table ( yes I am observant). This is not a margarita and nachos place. This place is the real deal!
Food is truly authentic. I’m from the Nor Cal Bay Area and this blows away any place I’ve gone back home.
Try the Carne en su Juego or the Barbacoa Tacos or Pancho Lopez plate. Can’t go wrong.
Wow, this small hole in the wall is authentic and amazing!!!
As soon as you walk in and go up the stairs, it feels like you’re in a Mexican restaurant!!!
It is an open-air restaurant so when it’s summertime expect it to be hot!
The customer service was top-notch!
The atmosphere is authentic, especially on the weekends when they have Mariachi.
I tried their Michelin awarded
Carne En Su Jugo
It was so delicious!!
The dish is not too spicy, and they give you hand-made tortillas.
The salsas they have are delicious!
I also tried their Taco Dorado de papa, and it was perfect
They have only been open for 6 years, and the recipes have been passed down from generation to generation.
If you want some authentic Mexican food and experience, this is a must try location!
Lets start with the wait 30 minutes or so kinda of lost track as people were leaving and everyone one outside was waiting to get in…
We made it in and were seated the place was packed with people I think with only one waitress taking your orders it probably wasnt most ideal. Looks like a family establishment mom 2 sisters and the dad at the register.
The table had a bowl of chips and after a few minutes the girl made it to our table to get our drinks Cafe de Ola is a true test of a Mexican restaurant especially if its on the menu… The girl wasnt sure if they had any and then came back with the small cups saying this was the last they had… We did ask for some salsa for the chips because who eats chips with out it, and we were brought 3 bottles of salsa you squirt on the chips (different for sure).
We were hungry and I was foing ro order the tacos Dorado but my wife saw the Mocajete and said lets get this we can share it says its for 3 people…
My wife asked the waitress if this was really for 3 people and she said yes I haven’t seen anyone finish it… There lies th dilemma could all the 4 & 5 star reviews be because no one tried the Mocajete???
After an additional 20 minutes wait once we ordered out came the Mocajete sizzling and full of steam…. 10 minutes late we were done not because we ravaged the food but because we must have ordred the Vegan Mocajete, the reason nobody finished it is because there is more onions and cactus then there was meat and cheese….
The Chorizo non existent if it was there it melted in the juices Lol, the chicken and Asada enough for 4 street tacos. Don’t get me wrong the juice was very flavorful but to say no one very finishes it seemed very strange, my wife still hungry ordred a side of beans that was literally a side of beans food flavor but could have spared a bit more especially since the Mocajete was lacking.
I think overall I would steer away the Mocajete unless your on a diet.
Sadly we left hungry and ended up having to stop somewhere else to eat.
Atmosphere seems quaint, they were very packed and under staffed the cook probably had a hard time keeping up this would explain why the Mocajete was full of more vegetables then meat. 🙁
The staff nice but also overwhelmed but this must be the norm for them since its family owned and operated…
