Carmine’s is a restaurant in Ybor City known for its comfort food. The decor inside is basic, and has a few brick walls. The service was a bit slow; but gave us recommendations and was friendly with us.

It was a great dining experience. One I’ve been looking forward to for a while since I am now living out of state. If you are visiting Tampa you must visit Caine’s in Ybor City. Devil Crab, authentic Tampa Cuban sandwich and Spanish bean soup. Excellent!

I am so disappointed. First time ordered and I was excited for my salad. I have to say this was not worth the money. The chicken taste like it was cooked in crab juice and the salad was dull and soggy. I thought there would be more too it. Tasteless croutons and the dressing was odd. Will not be back.

I was very disappointed by Carmine’s. First they didn’t have enough servers for a Saturday lunch shift. So that meant that even though there were open seats we had to stand around for about 15 minutes before being seated. That was understandable from the position of not overwhelming the servers and kitchen. The menu was less than informative because pretty much everything we ordered was different from what we were anticipating. We got some appetizers : fried green tomatoes and the seared Ahi tuna. The tomatoes came breaded and the ahí was covered in sauce which overpowered the flavor of the tuna. And the bed of greens that came with the tuna was little more than a few pieces of baby lettuce. The baked chicken came with black beans and rice, but no vegetables. The chicken was good but nothing special. The drinks were also nothing special. The waitress didn’t bother to write our order and had to send someone to ask us what appetizers we had ordered. The ambulance was OK nice with the exception that the sports team flags didn’t really mesh with the rest of the decor. All in all it seemed more like a diner than a restaurant/bar. Won’t be going back.

Had lunch at Carmine’s. Glad we stopped in. Atmosphere is just right and the bartender was very nice and efficient. Bloody Mary was very good and so was the Spanish House salad and 1/2 baked chicken entree.

For 2 decades I was an occasional patron when visiting our company warehouse in Ybor. Co-workers and I made this place one of our top 5 places to put on the feed bag.

7th Avenue is the heart of the Ybor City historical district, from the Columbia restaurant on the corner of N. 21st Street in the east to N. 13th Street in the west. There are Restaurants, Café’s, Bars, Cigar Shops, Tattoo Parlors, Hookah Lounges, Night Clubs, a Wine Bar and a Cinema. I’m guessing that this Historic District designation is a problem for property owners who want to upgrade or modernize their premises, so I’m willing to give Carmine’s the benefit of the doubt. The restaurant is undoubtedly run down, so it loses a star, but the food is still good.

Ordered the spiced steak and it was the worst I have ever tasted. It says steak on the menu but we were served a patty. It tasted dry and bland. Who serves a patty with rice and beans? Just makes no sense to me. Gave them the one star for the Spanish rice.

One of our favorite spots in Ybor to grab a Cuban or have a nice meal. Staff is friendly and food is always delicious. They were all out of their grouper when we came but the Tampa Cuban and their Crab cake were phenomenal. You really can’t go wrong with anything on their menu. Come check it out!

Service was very good and it was quick to get our dishes. The rice and black beans were very good. The key lime pie was a tiny piece, not worthy the price. The Cuban sandwich had no pulled pork, they substituted a thin slice of pork lunch meat, 2×3 piece. I could not even find it at first , thought it was a thin piece of chicken lunch meat. Was basically a thin ham and cheese lunch meat sandwich. The entire reason for stopping in Ybor city and here. I could have liked the place if they could have made the Cuban. I need to find a good Cuban sandwich. Only reason for the 3 stars and not 2 was the great waitress. She had nothing to do with the food.
