We took a little weekend trip up north & stopped at Carmine Newburyport in Newburyport on the way to use one of the many gift cards I won in a contest. First of all, Newburyport is an adorable coastal town with tons of great foodie options, & Carmine is definitely at the top of the list. We were greeted by hostess Matty, whose enthusiasm truly made our night. We started with cocktails & the meatball appetizer—the sauce was perfect, & the added ricotta really took it over the top. I had the eggplant parmesan with fusilli, & he ordered the fettuccine in a pomodoro cream sauce with sausage, scallops, shrimp, & chicken. The pasta was perfectly al dente— just right. For dessert, we finished with a pistachio martini, which was the perfect ending to the meal. All in all, a fabulous visit with amazing food & great service. Highly recommend! Make a reservation this place gets busy.

The food was fantastic! We started with the mussels, which were tasty, fresh, and did not last long between the two of us. I got the Fettucine Carmine as my entree and I was blown away. Fresh pasta, scallops, shrimp, sausage, and chicken in a delicious and rich pomodoro cream sauce. The portion was large and I needed help finishing it. My boyfriend got the Fra Diavlo which was also wonderful and had a nice light spice to it.
We found the one hour timed dinner a little odd, especially for Valentines Day as we felt like we had to rush through our meal, but we made it work. When making the reservation, my boyfriend was not notified of the policy. Must be in the fine print somewhere else on the website. Also, no dessert menu is a bit strange as a scoop of gelato or a tiramisu would have been the perfect finish.
Overall, would return! I would suggest expanding the dinning time limit as I would have loved to take my time with enjoying my dish as it was so large and tasty! We also felt slightly rused to make a selection on dish as we didnt want to lose any of our dining time, but luckily you can pick the wrong dish here.

A MUST GO!!!! If you love Italian food this is definitely the place to go to !! The appetizers we got were eggplant parm and meatballs both incredible along with the bread and oil service ! For dinner I got the chicken parm with vodka sauce I am speechless the crispiest most flavorful chicken cutlet I’ve ever had!! I love how they do their vodka sauce as well with the meats in it as well ! Delicious wagon wheel pasta it’s the best I can’t say anything but amazing things about this place!!!! Highly recommend

I don’t know how our experience could have been better! We made a reservation and were seated promptly on a busy night during the holidays. It is small, with a North End feel. The service was top notch. I was skeptical about ordering the ginger pear martini, but was more than pleasantly surprised by how balanced it was. The pasta was fresh and authentic. Don’t skip Carmine’s on your trip to Newburyport.

Great spot for a delicious Italian dinner, It felt like a real treat, between the atmosphere, the great service (CJ and crew great job), and of course the food. The spaghetti with clams beat all expectations, not only was were the clams great, but the white sauce was A+. My Scallops with a spicy red sauce is giving me hugs from the inside. The Salad is well portioned! No desserts offered but with all that food who has room , Great place for a romantic dinner or couples night. Love this place and will be going back

Food was great,but staff was rude and disrespectful. I understand the need to keep on schedule, but if I reserve a table for 4 people and get allowed 1.5 hours, please don’t knock on my table at 1 hrs 15 minutes because the previous party at my table stayed beyond their time. Won’t be planning on dining anytime soon.

After a long day of fishing, my party arrived to Carmine at 8:55 PM, just five minutes before the kitchen was set to close. Despite our late arrival, we were welcomed with open arms. You scan a QR code to view their menu – a feature that I love to see from restaurants. 1) It saves trees and 2) think about how nasty a physical menu is. Think about all the gross people in this world who don’t wash their hands that touch those things. At one point in the evening, I got up to use the restroom. It’s always a gamble using a restaurant bathroom. You really put a lot of faith in the lock on that door to protect you from public embarrassment. And let’s face it, those locks can be flimsy. I noticed that the Carmine restrooms door had two locks for extra insurance. I felt very secure. The food was delicious – a filling Chicken Parm with fresh homemade pasta. I’ll be back.

Great spot for a delicious Italian dinner date! It felt like a real treat, between the atmosphere, the great service, the generous wine pours, and of course the food. The octopus puttanesca beat all expectations, not only was the octopus itself great, but the sauce and gnocchi were A+. The appetizers are on the larger side so the side of us were happy with one. As for entrees, the cacio e pepe pasta was my favorite, but the tuna from the tuna pasta dish was also really tasty. I really wish they had dessert, but at least just that day it was only dessert drinks. Great date spot!

The Good – We had a fantastic meal at Carmine. The mussels, penne vodka (although they were out of penne) and crazy Alfredo were all excellent. I had a dirty martini and it was one of the best I’ve ever had including their home made blue cheese stuffed olives.
The Bad – we had no idea we had a 60 minute limit to eat. We were enjoying ourselves only to have the hostess come by and indicate that another reservation was waiting on our table. This didn’t ruin the night but left us a little frustrated to end the experience. $200 for two people and we had 1 hour to take it all in.
