The food was fresh and delicious. They make their own nacho chips (complimentary and served hot with fresh salsa). This was a small family owned business and the service was impeccable. One of the owners came over to say hello and to make sure everything was to our liking. Will definitely go back the next time we are in Charleston/ Mt Pleasant!

I really enjoyed dining at this place. The owner, Juan, came out and brought our drinks and we had a good talk about where he was from and how the restaurant came to be. The food was great! The tacos had great flavor and the fried stuffed jalapenos were awesome, but be warned, they pack a punch! Try the hibiscus margarita. Actually try any of the margaritas. After a hot day walking around Old Village, the drinks left little to be desired. Even the free chips and salsa were delicious. It seems that they make their own chips, which to me, gives then a distinct advantage over your regular old Tex Mex place that one seems to frequently come across in the lowcountry. The food is pretty authentic but the salsas that come with the food were the only thing that I wanted more from. I’m used to having at least two homemade traditional salsas with some kick, but it could be that that stuff doesn’t add much value considering the area.

The food was fresh, authentic, and delicious. Good portions. 5 person group, and everyone loved their food.
They have indoor and outdoor seating, we sat outside, it was a cute area.
Our waitstaff was helpful and nice.
We would definitely go back.

Absolutely delicious. I ordered the barbacoa plate, and was not disappointed. I’m very particular about how food is cooked, and the meat I will admit was slightly overdone, but not in a way that would keep you from enjoying the thorough absorption of the well balanced infused flavors. Fresh ingredients meant further addition to the overall enjoyment of the plate. Refried beans were more liquid than my liking, but again the flavoring was spot on. Rice was tender and well seasoned.
To top it off, we had a flan, which was incredible!!! Sugar syrup was caramelized perfectly, and the consistency was amazing. Definitely a great find!

If I could give this place more stars, I would. Chips. Freshly fried, crisp, and just a little thick. Salsa. Amazing. Guacamole. Amazing. I smashed those before, I thought to even take pictures. Apologies. I had birria tacos. Absolutely freaking delicious. The soup to dip them in… sigh… and that’s a very heavenly sigh… my mother had the bistek with chicken. I tried hers also, and I swear to God, that’s the most tender and juicy chicken I’ve ever had in my life! I also ordered a side of rice and beans. Both are awesome. This place wasn’t overpriced. I love Mexican food, but this here is on a whole other level, y’all! Best I’ve ever had hands down! The food was just… you need to go find out. That’s all I can say.
Every time I come visit my mother, who lives in Goose Creek, we make at least one trip to Carmen y Juan. ALWAYS DELICIOUS. Today was no different.
Back again and delicious as always! Mother had the Bistek, and I the Chilequiles.

I recently visited this restaurant for lunch, and what started as an exciting chance to try somewhere we have not eaten quickly turned into a disappointing experience.
I ordered the Carne Asada, and when it arrived, it was covered in onions, making it difficult to see the meat. Once I took a closer look, it resembled liver more than steak. I tried two bites, but the flavor and texture were just not good. I politely let our server know that I didn’t like the dish. I never send dishes back however she was kind and offered to bring me another meal, so I ordered the Carnitas instead.
When the Carnitas came out, another staff member—possibly a manager—approached me with the new dish and asked if I wanted a box for the first one. I was confused until she clarified that I would need to pay for both meals. I was surprised, as in my experience working in the restaurant industry, that’s not how good customer service is handled. I paid for both dishes but left disappointed and they didn’t bring me my original dish in the box I was told I had to pay for.
Unfortunately, what began as a hopeful lunch outing for my family turned into a frustrating experience. I won’t be returning.

Chips and salsa were great! But… Enchiladas were not good. No seasoning or flavor and I didn’t eat much of it because it was just bland, even with the salsa on top. Obviously others like it which is why I visited, but this wasn’t for me.

This is the fourth time I’ve ordered carnitas and they are consistently fantastic! The skinny margarita is delicious, I’ve tried skinny margaritas from countless Mexican restaurants and this one is the best by far! Staff is friendly too. We will continue to come back!
