We visited Carmella’s for Pittsburgh’s Summer Restaurant Week and very much enjoyed our experience. It’s a more casual atmosphere where you can enjoy fancier dinners, and they had live music in the bar. We had a reservation, so we had no wait. It was a Friday evening and it was very busy, but the service was quick and attentive, and we didn’t have any problems with our meal.

My husband and I each chose different starters and desserts, but got the same entree. We started out with peach lemonade sorbet, which was more peach than lemonade, but was still very good. The grilled peach mixed a bunch of unique flavors and I just wish there was more of it because it was so good. My husband really enjoyed the wagyu meatball filled with cheese and said the sauce was particularly delicious. We both got the radiatori alla vodka, and the chicken cutlet was so tender but had the most perfectly crispy coating on the outside, it was impressively done, and the garlic toast was excellent as well. We had enough to take home leftovers too! My husband’s Dubai chocolate brownie was so rich and decadent. I was a bit disappointed by the peach cobbler as it didn’t seem to have much flavor, but everything else was outstanding. Overall, it was hard to pick a favorite part of the meal!

We had an excellent experience when we visited Carmella’s for Sunday brunch. The atmosphere is an immersive trattoria with ornate paintings and decor. The service was super friendly and very attentive. And the food was delicious! I tried Carmella’s Breakfast – a plate with small portions of several delightful breakfast items. It included waffles, toast with jam, bacon, sausage, fresh fruit, scrambled eggs and breakfast potatoes. Everything was portioned nicely so you can enjoy your meal with feeling overwhelmed. This dish was very good and I recommend it to first time visitors. We also tried the French Press Coffee, which was fun, interactive and tasty. I would definitely like to visit again to try dinner.

I think this restaurant will be a great addition to the Pittsburgh area. The presentation of the food was wonderful. Unfortunately, both of our jerk chicken dishes were under cooked and under seasoned. I will try again in the future because of great potential. Good Whiskey selection as well.

Really cool little place – with an excellent bourbon selection, as expected! It’s truly an experience – a place we will totally take friends and family whenever they come into Pittsburgh for a visit!!

The only bad thing about this place is figuring out what you want to order… they have so many amazing options and the menu changes often aswell. They have the best bourbon selection I’ve seen in Pittsburgh. Great staff, great drinks, and always great food.

Carmella’s Pints and Plates is one of my go-to spots and I frequent it often. The Wagyu burger is consistently excellent and easily one of the best burgers around. Their specialty drinks are always creative and well-made—there’s usually something new to try, and it never disappoints.
The atmosphere is phenomenal, especially during the holidays when they really go all out with decorations and vibes. It’s a great place to relax, grab great food and drinks, and actually enjoy the experience. Highly recommend.

We had been wanting to try this restaurant for ages and finally had the chance for an anniversary dinner. The wine selection was not very good and my white was served warm in a thick stemmed glass. My husband really enjoyed the scotch list, which was very impressive albeit rather pricey. The shishito peppers and cheese were good but needed more than 3 tiny bread crisps given how oily they were. The risotto was unbelievably bland especially for the price, and the salmon was fried on the outside but still cool and raw on the inside (but I know that’s how many people like it so no shade). For context, the plate of watery risotto and small portion of salmon was $37! The pasta serving was small and we ordered the meatball appetizer to make it more filling but realized our mistake upon seeing how small of a portion that was as well. The tirimisu was much too sweet for my liking – almost like cool whip – but my husband enjoyed it. Overall we will not be back. They need to decide if they are trying to be a “nice restaurant” that merits $40 entrees or if they want to stick to the average quality and go back to more reasonable prices. You can get much better quality food for this price elsewhere. For a bar, if they stuck to bar prices, it would be a slam dunk.

Interesting food selections and a really unique atmosphere turned out to be a lot of fun! The staff were accommodating to our groups seating requests. The food and wine was all really good: I had the asparagus risotto and it was just delicious.

We have loved our experiences at Carmella’s in the past and go there for special occasions and thus, the reason this is a 2-star, not a 1-star review.

We love the atmosphere typically but on this day, we had a 4pm reservation and although it wasn’t yet busy, the house staff, who were great, started taking down decorations including pictures that were covered with wrapping paper and changing ,red and green light bulbs back to soft white, all around us and our table, which was very distracting to our experience and made us feel our experience and patronage were unimportant to them.

In addition this was the first time the meals were subpar, well under cooked risotto and barely warm lamb stew. We contacted the restaurant privately, but received an unsatisfactory response.
