I had swiss steak and mashed potatoes and butterscotch meringue pie!
Oh my goodness it was all so tasty!!!!!
Carlyle’s is only open from 11am to 3pm Monday through Friday and the place was packed!
I highly recommend dining here if you get a chance.
Once again, the food was absolutely awesome. Everything comes out of the kitchen hot, fresh, and packed with flavor, the kind that makes you pause mid-bite and look around like, “How is this so good?” Tracy and his staff clearly aren’t guessing their way through these dishes—this is food built on family recipes, experience, and years of knowing exactly what works.
And yes… once again, we ordered the Blooming Onion as an appetizer—because not ordering it would feel irresponsible. Cleverly cut, lightly battered, and cooked just right, those onion wedges pull apart effortlessly and are downright heavenly. Crispy without being greasy, flavorful without being heavy—it’s the kind of appetizer that disappears faster than planned.
The building itself isn’t flashy, and the décor won’t distract you—but that’s part of the charm. It’s clean, cozy, and comfortable, and once the food hits the table, nothing else matters anyway. One bite in, and you’ll swear someone’s mom (maybe yours) snuck into the kitchen to help out.
Bottom line: You need to visit this place. Carlyle’s proves—again and again—that great food doesn’t need fancy surroundings, just heart, skill, and people who know what they’re doing.
Carlyle’s is such a place. There was a small wait as it was a Friday, and it was obvious that it was a popular local place. But I was sat quickly, and had already known what I wanted beforehand so ordered the Reuben. It came out quickly, and came with a side of fries.
The fries were just about perfect; crispy but not hard, and seasoned but not overly salty. The Reuben was amazing. Everything about it was great, and the dressing was on the side so I could add as much as I wanted.
I also got the Kentucky Derby pie, which the waitress described as “Chocolate pecan with chocolate chips” and I was instantly sold. Quite honestly probably one of the best pies I have ever had. I will definitely be returning.

Friendly staff. Owner came out of the kitchen and welcomed his clientele. He has a great gift, a real magnetism with people and his cooking is magnificent. I only wish they would stay open longer than 3:00 p.m. due to day shifters not being able to have the experience. Extra delicious food. They have the BLOOMING ONION! I’ve missed it. You always had to drive out of town for it! So delicious!

-Buzzing of people talking but keep in mind, this is in a former “Lawsons” convenience store so it is not small but also not large.
