The Mafaldine Bolognese was priced at $32. Normal for nicer restaurants. However, my issue is not with the prices at all. The pasta was under seasoned and the bolognese sauce was the consistency of hot dog chili sauce. They may have put an immersion blender on the sauce bowl and emulcified all the meats into a paste. The texture was very off putting. This could have at least been redeemed if the flavor was there but it just was not. It lacked salt overall. But there was no pepper, no fennel, no basil, garlic, onion, etc. The sauce had no flavor standing out. Not even meat flavored. At least throw chicken bouillon. It was more like a bland tomato gravy sauce. I typically have issues with the noodles being overdone but the noodles here were cooked al dente. I also enjoyed the fact that they offered Mafaldine. The overall atmosphere was nice. It was packed to the max when I went but it was good to see them busy and people enjoying themselves. The staff was friendly and very attentive. Overall a good vibe but not worth the price they charge. There are better restaurants that charge less.
I will note that the pizza there looked delicious. Maybe that is worth trying. 🙂
Some of these reviews feel pretty off base. Try it for yourself! The prices felt more than fair for the quality of food and the service. My only note is that it does get fairly loud inside when it’s crowded.
There was an error with our food ticket (which I must emphasize is a rare one-off in our experience at this restaurant), and while this may have put a damper on our dining experience elsewhere, we were treated with such a high level of communication, respect, kindness, and accountability by our server – more than we even felt like we deserved – that this error resulted in us having an overwhelmingly positive experience instead.
Our server went above and beyond for us and I find that this level of customer service, communication, and compassion is special and hard to come by. We left feeling like we were treated with unprecedented respect, and we can add this to the list of reasons why we will continue giving our well-deserved business to Carina Sorella. Thank you!
Thank you for a wonderful evening
To start, we had Caesar salad and pizza, which were great, and the presentation was good, too. Alongside this order, we received a bread board for the table. Although it had a cute display, they provided a small piece of bread that barely had anything on it, which, in my opinion, was not worth the price. I think I took a small bite of the bread, and then I was done. Others mutually agreed; it just wasn’t what we expected. When it came to the main course, I ordered scallops, and unfortunately, they were overcooked and lacked flavor. Out of the four scallops, I may have been able to eat one and a half because I just couldn’t finish them. They looked like they would be delicious, but sadly, they did not meet our expectations. However, the desserts we had were great. The staff even brought out a special dessert for the person celebrating their birthday, which I thought was really thoughtful. The attention to detail in both presentation and service truly elevated the overall dining experience. I would say it was hard to give this rating because the service was truly excellent, but the food overall fell short in the few items we had; others at the table felt similar about their meals as well.
We sat at the bar and Kayla was our server. She was wonderful. Very knowledgeable about GF options and the GF experience in a restaurant.
We were there on two weekdays in the winter. Seating was not an issue. However, on a weekend, or in nicer weather, I’d recommend a reservation.
We will be back the next time we are in Bryn Mawr.
