If you’re searching for authentic Cuban flavor in the Midlands, Caribe Cuban Café on Augusta Highway in Lexington, SC delivers the kind of experience that instantly transports you somewhere warmer. Walking in, the aromas alone tell you this is the real deal garlic, citrus, roasted meats, and fresh bread all working together like a well-rehearsed salsa band.

Let’s start with the bread, because it deserves center stage. Cuban bread is not easy to get right outside of Florida, but Caribe nails it. The loaf is beautifully fresh—light and airy inside with just the right crisp on the outside once pressed. It’s the foundation of a proper Cuban sandwich, and here it shines.

Speaking of the Cuban sandwich, it’s simply outstanding. Layered with tender roast pork, savory ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard, all pressed together in that perfectly toasted bread, it’s balanced, flavorful, and deeply satisfying. Having lived in Florida, I’ve eaten my share of Cubans, and I can confidently say this is the best one I’ve had since leaving the Sunshine State. Every bite hits that perfect harmony of salty, tangy, and savory that makes the sandwich a classic.

The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with the kind of friendly energy that makes you feel like a regular even on your first visit. Much of that warmth comes from Mario, who made the experience exceptional from start to finish. Mario’s hospitality is genuine and enthusiastic—he greets guests with a smile, checks in thoughtfully, and clearly takes pride in both the food and the customer experience. It’s the kind of service that turns a good meal into a memorable visit.

After that sandwich, I half expected someone to start playing dominoes in the corner and arguing about baseball in Spanish. That’s when you know the flavors are authentic.

In short, Caribe Cuban Café is a hidden gem in Lexington. Between the outstanding Cuban sandwich, the perfectly fresh bread, and Mario’s welcoming presence, it’s a place that captures the spirit of Cuban comfort food beautifully. If you’re craving a taste of Miami in South Carolina, this is the spot.

Spotted this place going to the airport last week, went back today as Cuban cuisine is one of my favorite. Just did lunch this time at a Cuban sandwich and a Cafe Con leche. Sandwich was stacked up nicely. Bread was perfect and the coffee hit the spot. Definitely will be back for some more dinner entrees another day. Thank you for bringing Cuban food to the area.

Between the 3 of us, we tried the Cuban sandwich, the pork, the picadillo, fried yuca, yuka con mojo, black beans, and plantains. Everything was excellent.

The portions were large and we all ended up with leftovers. Given the portion size, I think the prices are really reasonable.

The staff was friendly and very helpful. They took time to explain dishes with which we were unfamiliar.

The dining area is large and the tables nicely spaced so you don’t feel like you’re sitting on top of the person at the table next to you. They have several large tables so you can seat a large party.

Happy to see some variety here in local West Cola. Very friendly and accommodating service, good environment, a bit slow on the food coming out (some plates came out sooner than others).

The food itself was good, albeit not quite up there with the Florida local options but again, happy to see it, and may very well return soon!

I have been meaning to try this place out since I saw they opened, and finally went for a late lunch (to go…busy day!). It was great. Best media noche I have had in a very long time.
Really nice atmosphere inside, and everyone was super friendly.
