Reviews
This market is the absolute gem of the neighborhood! It is a total lifesaver and has something for every possible situation.
I recently went in for lasagna noodles, and when they were out of the boxed version, the staff sold me their house-made frozen pasta sheets. The man behind the counter was so kind, giving me expert tips on how to cook with them. Honestly, their own prepared lasagna is so good I almost bought it to pass off as my own!
The Sandwiches: Top-notch quality and huge portions that easily last for two meals.
The Drinks: They sell an Old Fashioned mix that tastes like a $20 craft cocktail once you add your bourbon.
Host Gifts: If you’re heading to a party, their selection of fancy chocolates and tinned fish makes for an impressive gift that guarantees a second invite.
So grateful to have such a high-quality, friendly spot right around the corner. Support this local treasure!
The strongest element here is the retail selection. Caputo’s carries a good range of specialty items including cheeses, cured meats, chocolates, pantry goods, and imported ingredients that are difficult to find in standard grocery stores. The emphasis on sourcing and product quality is clear, and for home cooks or food enthusiasts, there is genuine value in browsing the shelves.
Where the experience falls short is when you are eating at the store rather than shopping. The prepared food and deli menu selection is relatively narrow, especially given the brand’s reputation. Options feel limited, and while some items are well executed, there is not enough breadth to make it feel like a place you would regularly choose for a meal rather than a quick bite.
Quality on the deli side is inconsistent. Some offerings are flavorful and satisfying, while others feel underwhelming relative to the price point. Portion sizes and value vary, which makes ordering feel less predictable than it should be.
The store itself is clean and organized, though it can feel congested during busy periods. Browsing is far more enjoyable during off-peak hours when the space can breathe.
Service is knowledgeable but variable. When staff engage, they clearly understand the products and can offer useful insight. At other times, interactions feel rushed and transactional, which limits the overall experience.
Overall, Caputo’s Market & Deli works best as a specialty grocery stop rather than a dining destination. It is useful, occasionally enjoyable, but not exceptional, and it does not fully live up to the expectations its reputation creates.
Worth the miles.
I’ve eaten here a few times, and I’ve liked it overall. The muffuletta was delicious, as was the hot pastrami. Due to the nature of the pastrami sandwich, it does not hold or travel well. I recommend that for dine-in. The salads were meh and a little dry (the antipasto, Greek, caprese) and I wouldn’t get again.
I will come back! Good high quality olive oils and chocolates, too, sold here.
