If you’re anywhere near Bayview and don’t stop at Captain’s Wheel, I’m convinced you don’t actually like joy. This place is boat-friendly, people-friendly, and most importantly stomach-friendly. Easy access from the water means you can dock, eat, and pretend you’re a fancy yacht owner all in one smooth move.
Now let’s talk food. Everyone raves about the “adult grilled cheese,” and for good reason it’s not your childhood sandwich. This thing is like grilled cheese that went abroad, studied philosophy, and came back wearing designer shoes. Gooey, golden, and downright addictive. If sandwiches had dating profiles, this one would be totally in my league.
The staff? Quick with a smile and the kind of people who make you feel like you’ve been a regular for years even if you just showed up in flip-flops asking if they serve fries by the pound (they don’t, but they should).
Bottom line: Captain’s Wheel is proof that happiness floats and it tastes like an adult grilled cheese.
Been better if fish and fries were served hot instead of warm. Due to lack of staff, our meals sat too long on counter before being served to us
I feel understaffed, one gal for all of the tables. Server didnt have time for drink refills, nor to bring togo boxes. Had to ask for everything.
She was very pleasant, but as only staff person, not able to be that attentive to all of the tables she was assigned.
Soda served in cup full of ice; needed two refills to get one full glass of soda.
Was unaware of the fee for the extra piece of fish, and another extra charge which I’m guessing was a plate charge (should advise of extra fees while taking order); receipt was not itemized so not really sure what each charge was for.
Due to lack of staff, had to wait quite a while to get order taken and order served, had to ask for eating utensils.
1st time there, not sure If she would ever come back to take payment, finally went to bar area to cash out.
Yes, I would return and try this place again.
Husband ordered the grilled pepper jack and beef veggie soup. Both were amazing!!!
Older building a little ruff around the edges but worth stopping in. Try a burger
The fish and chips were not my preferred breading, but were cooked almost perfect. Thin fries, big portions.
The reuben was worth talking about. Layers of sauerkraut, thin pastrami with very little else. Kraut is salty, but seems to have a (bacon-pepper?) tinge and a little sweet. Huge sandwich. Can’t really taste the 1000 island, but it’s good that way.
