I started off with the delcious fried Calamari then I went with the seafood platter. You can chose up to 3 types of meat! I went with flounder, shrimp, and scallops. The whole thing comes on a bed of fries.
The upstairs bar is a really cool spot too! It has a covered roof, a patio with a view of the downtown square, and it’s own upstairs bathroom.
If you are in the area, you should definitely check it out. The food is great and the value is really good. You get generous portions!
I should also mention they are kid friendly. We brought our 1 year old and things worked out great!
The meh: Nachos were okay, the cheese was cold and solid, but had good flavor
The BAD: Clam chowder was extremely watery, but had good flavor. The clam was definitely fresh, but the watery consistency and the fact that it was slightly too salty, would make me tell folks to steer clear– especially at $7 for a cup. Crab cake sandwich was subpar. The crab cake itself was pretty thick and had decent flavor, but the bun ruined it. The brioche bun was unfortunately soggy and stale tasting. The service was not great after we were served our food. We did not get our waters topped off and we got a pitcher nearby and finished the pitcher of water ourselves and we still needed more water.
Drinks are very good also.
They have 2 locations. We went to the one on the Island.
The spot is clean, spacious, and full of tv’s playing all the sports your heart desires.
We had fish tacos, peel and eat shrimp, a house burger w/ fries, a piña-colada, and an IPA ! We absolutely loved the food and would repeat our visit. The fish was fresh flounder and the steamed shrimp were a fresh local catch. The burger had to be a quarter pound patty, filled with flavor and seasoning. My wife was so impressed!!!
As for service, our waitress was on point! She took care of our table as if she only had us, but in reality, she had 5 tables. Well done!
With that, we highly recommend Captain Woody’s especially during Happy Hours. The food, service, drinks, and vibe were top notch. Now this is not Hudson Seafood across the bridge but if you are visiting Sea Pines or Shipyard or Wexford and don’t want to travel, Captain Woodys is the place for lunch or dinner.
They have a great happy hour from 4 to 6, BUT you have to sit at the bar, or at one of a very small set of tables to get the deal. I think that’s pretty weak! If you run a happy hour it should be available anywhere in the restaurant!!
The food is good, and the service was ok, but it’s no longer one of our favorite places on the island!
But when it came it did not have the seasoned fries and coleslaw as per the menu. The gentleman who delivered it said no problem and in less than 2 minutes had corrected the order.
They had a dispenser with a red sauce (no name on it) which I tried and after a bit I could taste the hint of horseradish, which was awesome!!! And I told them so.
Neillen our server was Super nice and helpful. I would definitely have the platter again and again and again.
