Captain Tom’s recently came up as #1 on a list of the best seafood in NC, even beating out coastal restaurants so we had to try it. When we arrived, the hostess looked up from her phone long enough to tell us we could “sit in there (the bar area), it’s first come first serve” even though there was plenty of tables and nobody waiting. Our server was great, food came out really fast and was good but our expectations were already set really high. Oysters were not in shells and the shrimp was a little tough. The catfish was great. Overall everything was good and would visit again for fried seafood but I’ll stick to the coast for the good stuff.

Satisfying lunch on a Sunday – busy but able to find an open seat quickly. Great service, and a lot of different seafood options.

Food was good and service was friendly. I ordered the small popcorn shrimp platter with french fries, coleslaw and added a side of fried okra. I noticed they gave me 3 cocktail sauces but no tartar sauce. I thought that came standard otherwise I would have asked for some.

This review is based on 2 visits. We loved this restaurant, staff, and the food on our first visit so we had to come back and it didn’t disappoint at all. The food is was great and fresh and it didn’t tasted like it was made in old oil.

Every time we gather at Captain Tom’s, it’s a wonderful experience, from the front door, being seated, to the great attitude of their servers, to the amazingly delicious food, no matter what you order. If you get up from your booth or table, someone is guaranteed to ask you if there’s anything you need. this is the kind of attention we like to receive in a restaurant! Can never go wrong with their broiled, catfish, fried shrimp and oysters, and side dishes of okra and coleslaw. I’ve changed it up every time, and every time I’ve been happy! They aim to please!

I absolutely love Captain Tom’s! What sets Captain Tom’s apart for me is their fried seafood, especially the popcorn shrimp. The quality is noticeably better than other places I’ve tried. The flavors are just incredible!

It’s a little too greasy for my taste. The shrimp were very small. and very little meat on the flounder. Will try again.

I’m not sure why I heard this was the best seafood in NC, but it’s certainly a pleasant restaurant. The NE clam chowder was good, though the waitress said the she crab is more popular. The catfish Po boy was a bit bland to me. Still, it was good quality and the experience was overall a good value. The strawberry cake and pineapple coconut cake were both excellent but had been sitting in a display case, so they didn’t feel like they were at peak freshness. This is a spacious restaurant and would be great for larger groups. They offer a lot of non seafood items, so there’s something for everyone.

Read so many good reviews that we decided to try Captain Tom’s. Everyone was friendly from the hostess to the servers. Good selection of food and we ordered the fish and chips and the grilled whitefish. Food was fine, not great. You do get a lot of bang for your buck as the plates are generous.
