At our Jacksonville, FL location, we are part of a historic seafood tradition. Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant first opened its doors back on August 15, 1969. A lot has changed since then, but our commitment to serving freshly prepared seafood at a great value has been our core mission from the beginning. Known originally as Mr. D’s Seafood and Hamburgers, Captain D’s was opened in Donelson, Tennessee. From the very start, we set out to provide quality seafood at reasonable prices, a concept that was revolutionary at the time.

This was my first visit to any Captain D’s location in over 20 years. When I was younger it didn’t appeal to me like it does now. I preferred the competitor back then. Things have changed. The battered fish was flavorful and taste so much cleaner. I don’t eat meat so I’m always on the hunt for good fish. Today this location hit a home run. Everyone was so kind. I did place my order through the app, but communicated with the staff quite a bit before doing so about what their favorites were etc. I got 2pc meal with fries and coleslaw slaw. So happy they haven’t switched to waffle or crinkle cut fries! I got some cheesecake too. Clean location. Fast service. Kind employees. Excellent product. I’m sure it seems like I rate everyone at 5 stars but that’s only because I tend to only do a rating if it’s perfect. They exceeded my expectations here. I’ll be back if I’m in the area .

I had not been here in some time. The quality in the food had gone way down. The fish tasted like it was cooked in oil that had not been changed in a week or more, the corn on the cob was dried out. The Cole slaw was not even edible.
One of the people working the counter was more interested in playing with her hair than waiting on customers.
It took me 20+ minutes to receive my order. Two customers that came in after I did that had large orders got their orders before I received my order. Then only after I said something about how long I had been waiting. This used to be a good place to eat at at a reasonable price. Not any more.

This is one of the slowest restaurants I have ever visited in my life And I honestly hate that this is the closest one to where I live! It’s crazy because one night I went to the restaurant (through the drive-through) at 9 o’clock and the line just sat the entire time Without an order, even being taken for at least 20 minutes. By the time anyone got any service in the drive-through line it was close to time for the store to close! Not to mention that the food was disgusting and it taste as though it had been fried in old grease! I do not understand how it is that myself and others sat in that line for as long as we did and received disgusting not fresh food!

The WORST location in Jacksonville. They had my mom, sisters with a baby wait for AN HOUR!! to get our food. Ordered around 7:45 ALREADY PAID…told to move up to the door and they would bring the food out to us. After that we started employees leaving even the one that took our order. She claimed they were dropping fresh fish, waiting for this and that. Then another customer came after.. ordered, she waited for 20min and got her food and SHE’S THE ONE THAT TOLD US THEY WERE CLOSING! 100% Unprofessional and will NEVER got to that establishment again. So basically the employees would’ve had us out their hanging had the customer not tell us what was going on. Hush puppies still had batter on them, they rushed. Smh

this location is almost always on point with the level of quality in which the food is prepared/cooked with. service is generally timely, producing perfectly fried fish. the sides are just okay…nothing to write a Google review about or anything.

This worst-case experience! The food was dry and old as if the fish were cooked again for consideration freshly cooked. When asked if there was fresh fish being cooked at customer request, she screamed loudly at the cashier. When I tell This worst experience ever!!!! The food was dry and old as if the fish was dropped to consider freshly cooked. When asked the cooked in the back about fresh fish being dropped, she yelled loudly as the cashier. When I tell you every customer placed orders, including myself waited over an hour or longer. No, courtesy or communication to inform us about the wait, very disrespectful and inconsiderate. I have never experienced this type of behavior in the restaurant business. The solution to short staffing is to pay the workers what they’re worth and sometimes even then, these folks still don’t want to work. It’s ridiculous. That all customers placed orders, including myself, I waited for more than an hour or more. No, courtesy or communication to inform us on the waiting, extremely disrespectful and thoughtless. I have never experienced such behavior in the restaurant industry. The solution to the labor shortage is to pay the workers what they’re worth, and sometimes even then they still don’t want to work. It’s ridiculous.

The last two times I went, I left because they took too long to even take my order. Tonight, I gave them a time trial. I placed my order at 7:51pm for Only a 2 piece fish and fries. I made it to the window at 8:14. I got my food at 8:22. 31 minutes for fish and fries only.
The food is fine, but it sure as hell isn’t “fast” food.

When I pulled up to drive thru a woman took my order right away & told me to pull to the window for my total. There was another car at the window & I waited at least 10 minutes or more behind that car before getting to the window. There was only one person working the front counter & drive thru. She had to keep telling the cook she was waiting for my shrimp as I ordered a shrimp & fish dinner. She was getting frustrated because the cook wasn’t listening to her. She was very nice & professional but you could tell she was irritated. While I was waiting at the window to get my order, there were 5 cars behind me in the drive thru line, now. As she kept telling him she needed 6 shrimp for my order & she was repeating the next couple of orders to him. I don’t know if the cook is new or just slow! But the woman at the drive thru window was trying to make sure I got my order correct but I could hear she was having issues with the cook. Also, I ordered a baked potato & it wasn’t cooked, like not just under cooked but I could not eat it. I have no complaint about the woman at the drive thru but overall, it took way too long to get my food. I had been craving fish & shrimp & tried to get this meal at the Captain D’s on Edgewood Ave yesterday 8/17/25, but they had a sign in their drive thru they were only taking cash, their card reader was down. So I waited until today & went to Normandy location, to have this experience. Captain D’s needs to do better.
