At our Gastonia, NC location, we are part of a historic seafood tradition. Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant first opened its doors back on August 15, 1969. A lot has changed since then, but our commitment to serving freshly prepared seafood at a great value has been our core mission from the beginning. Known originally as Mr. D’s Seafood and Hamburgers, Captain D’s was opened in Donelson, Tennessee. From the very start, we set out to provide quality seafood at reasonable prices, a concept that was revolutionary at the time.

Called the Matthews location and their location closes at 10 and so does the dining room.
I would like to hear from the manager or upper level management on what the consistency is or should be.
Because we have never had food from any Captain D’s before, at 11 a.m. today we decided to do a Doordash delivery from Captain D’s on New Hope Road.
My husband ordered the “4 piece Chicken Tender Meal” for $14.29.
I ordered the “Giant Fish Sandwich & Side” that came with one side of my choice (chose the Macaroni & Cheese side) for $9.21.
I also ordered a side of Jalapeno poppers for $5.19.
The Doordash driver brought our food quickly and was very nice.
The food was warm and had been neatly packed, with no item missing.
The enclosed receipt listed all food ordered BUT no prices had been included. So if you order via phone/computer, be sure to keep that page or print it out.
THE AMOUNT & QUALITY OF FOOD WAS VERY DISAPPOINTING!
PICS WERE TAKEN & I will try to share them when I finish this review. (Sorry…not very good at “pic-sharing”. But will try.)
Chicken meal review:
According to my husband the Chicken Tenders were “on the small side” but “adequate”.
All 4 were fried “okay” and tasted “alright”.
Three of the Chicken pieces were tender but the 4th piece was “rubbery” and “hard to chew”. It was thrown out.
The Coleslaw amount was small but
it “tasted good”.
While the French Fries also tasted “good”, the amount that was sent was extremely skimpy. More like what a three-year-old child would be given, not an adult.
Fish meal review:
I found my Giant Fish Sandwich to hold two thin but longer-than-the-bun “spears” of HEAVILY-BATTERED fish.
There was definitely much more fried batter than fish in each “spear”!!
(I had trouble finding a couple good spoonfuls of JUST FISH in one spear for our 8-month-old kitten who wanted to join us. Yes, he’s spoiled. Lol.)
Definitely not worth $9.
(Am allowing 21 cents to cover the cost of the Mac & Cheese “side”…and IMO this is being generous.
The side of Macaroni & Cheese was so small as to be insulting to any customer paying for this meal.)
The extra “Side” of Jalapeno Poppers that was ordered contained 8 very small “poppers”, with each popper containing 4 or 5 small diced-up pieces of pickled jalapenos in some melted cheese (cheddar?). Flavor was great, the bite was mild. Overall, they were delicious.
While definitely not worth the cost of $5.19 because of being so tiny and few, these Jalapeno Poppers were, sadly, the BEST PART OF MY MEAL.
We definitely won’t be going back.
