At our Chester, VA location, we are part of a historic seafood tradition. Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant first opened its doors back on August 15, 1969. A lot has changed since then, but our commitment to serving freshly prepared seafood at a great value has been our core mission from the beginning. Known originally as Mr. D’s Seafood and Hamburgers, Captain D’s was opened in Donelson, Tennessee. From the very start, we set out to provide quality seafood at reasonable prices, a concept that was revolutionary at the time.

Ordered online for a 4:00 PM pickup on April 8, 2025 (Order #92, Online Order #1623683), and everything was ready right on time. The drive-thru service was super friendly, and the young lady who helped me was awesome—so polite and upbeat.
I don’t usually go to Captain D’s, but this visit might just change that. The food—Fish Sandwich, Oysters, and Fish & Shrimp—was seriously delicious. I’m already thinking about coming back soon!

Had not been to Captain D’s in a while decided it was a good place for dinner this particular night. Had the lobster rolls which I found absolutely awesome, You’re a hater and you only swear by lobster rolls from Maine or some other New England town fine I don’t care these were fantastic! Wife and son had the fish and fries and enjoyed them all.

As others have said and I confirm, good food, reasonably priced, clean dining room and (equally) clean rest rooms.
Hostess/manager greeted us, helped us order (from many options) and delivered our food to the table piping hot.
So worth pulling off Rt 95. Thanks.

Decent food, a bit overpriced. I usually don’t go unless I have a coupon.
Another visit on 4/11/23. They’ve upped their game.
Inside is open now. Yay.
Looks like they have new booths. Drive thru was slammed, but inside empty at 8pm.
I got the 4 fish dinner. It came on a nice divided plastic plate, loaded up!
Best $10 I’ve spent this month.
I’ll be back sooner than last time.

I was debating between Long John Silver and Captain D’s. I went with Captain D’s to see what all the hype was about. I ordered the seafood sampler platter. It came with a whole ear of corn, green beans, 2 hush puppies, butterfly shrimp and a piece of fish. The shrimp were pretty good, the fish was good, a bit small in size but still good. The corn was very good, it was sweet and buttered well. The green beans were also pretty good. The hish puppies were great, I usually do not like them you all, so that should speak volume. All in all it was a great platter and I would definitely buy it again. Thumbs up for sure!

Got the sampler, fish,chicken, shrimp, stuffed crab shells, fries, and coleslaw.
Could not tell which was chicken or fish. Both the fish and chicken tasted the same, tasted like the chicken was cooked at the same time fish was in the same oil. And both had the same texture.
Shrimp was ok at best. Fries were completely horrible, like they were sitting around for an hour. Crab shells had freezer burn. But they were fresh and hot.
Definitely different experience than as I remember from my youth. Definitely will not be back. The Captain Ds app didn’t work. The person at the drive thru said they don’t use it, but their address is in the app. Other reviewers stated they ordered online.

This place is so nasty The food here does not taste Good The Mac and cheese looked like it had something black in it all around it don’t know what that was The fries tasted microwaved so hard Couldn’t eat it And the fish looked like it had been pulled out of the trash can It was so hard and stale And the Coleslaw Tasted old We could not even finish our food it was so disgusting We left most of it on the table within the Captain d’s Table I never eat here again I just hope I haven’t Is caught anything They couldn’t even give this food out for free The only thing that was good was the hush puppies It was definitely not worth driving 40 minutes The food tastes like it came out the trash can!
