At our Newport News, VA location, we are part of a historic seafood tradition. Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant first opened its doors back on August 15, 1969. A lot has changed since then, but our commitment to serving freshly prepared seafood at a great value has been our core mission from the beginning. Known originally as Mr. D’s Seafood and Hamburgers, Captain D’s was opened in Donelson, Tennessee. From the very start, we set out to provide quality seafood at reasonable prices, a concept that was revolutionary at the time.

Time and time again I come back to this Captain Ds because you just can’t beat the deals. The staff is very nice and friendly no matter what time of the day. Daytime older staff is so efficient and on point. Evening shift young ladies are very funny, welcoming and always get my order right. They already know what I want when I walk through the door!
So my biggest returning factor. I get myself a 2 piece fish and fries at least 2-3 times a week. Its $5.99 on special and there is just nowhere else you can get such a satisfying meal for this price.
Next, I generally go in the evenings. No matter if its busy or light on the traffic, I always get my food in a reasonable timeframe. The staff just doesnt give you that offputting feeling you get many other places where they are passive and dont want to deal with you. Shoutout to the young ladies normally working the evening shift! Its really refreshing to see younger people with work ethic and customer service skills!
This is a great place to dine in or take out. Theyre usually very clean and I love that they bring your food to the table.
All in all, this is a 10/10 spot for me. Delicious food. Great value. Great staff. Easily accessible from my house. I hope these guys never change, they’re in the #1 spot for me when it comes to “fast food”.

Everytime I have been to this restaurant the service is ALWAYS top tier when I go inside the restaurant. John took care of me today and the customer service was absolutely superb and the food was hot. He brought everything I needed and even checked in afterward. Thanks so much for the phenomenal experience!

Of all the restaurants and fast food restaurants I’ve been to in Newport News, this Captain D’s restaurant is off the chain, the food and the service is great. But the number one thing about this Captain D’s restaurant here in Newport News is, every female that works there, every single one of them is smoking hot. If I didn’t have the job I have today making the money I do, I will be down or put an application in.

I hadnt been to a Captain D’s in forever since the last experience I had wasnt great. I stopped in this Captain D’s about a month ago and since then have been back multiple times. Every time the staff is very nice and quick and the food has been spot on in every way. Whoever is in charge of this Captain D’s really has a great crew!

If you like fish and chips, shrimp, crab, or chicken, this is the place to go. Don’t let the older building fool you its because they have been producing good food at a fair price for years. My favorite place to go for fish and chips make that the only place I go.

I haven’t been to Captain D’s in a while and was surprised by the new fish. What happened? It was not good. I couldn’t get pass the pinkish color either. Other than that, the people were nice and the place was clean.

Absolutely FANTASTIC experience!!! Cashier greeted with a genuine smile and was very polite and helpful, offering a promotional item and because of her positive demeanor we said yes! Store was very clean and well stocked. Food was piping hot and super fresh. Soda fountain was clean and stocked as well. Sweet tea hit the spot. Store manager even asked midway thru our meal if everything was alright and hot, very politely at that. HIGHLY recommend to everyone!!!

The customer service was poor today. The man at the window did not have a good attitude. I got the supreme sampler. It includes 2 chicken tenders. When I got my order, I noticed the tenders weren’t in the bag. When I asked for them, this is what they gave me. A tiny tender and a half.
