My wife and I had dinner here to celebrate our anniversary. It was our first time in Wilmington so we relied on the hotel staff for restaurant recommendations.
We found this restaurant very easily and there was plenty of parking.
The atmosphere was quaint and cozy.
The service was excellent. Our waitress was pleasant and courteous. She was also helpful with the menu items.
The food? It was delicious. My wife had the fried flounder and I had shrimp and grits. Both items were magnificent!!!
We will definitely return here on our next trip to Wilmington.

The Porter’s Neck location has an odd layout of the seating areas. It’s very much a chain restaurant. Food looked and tasted like dishes came straight from the Sysco Foods truck and to the plate, no flavor added.
Notes from Our Meal:
Sweet & Spicy Shrimp App:
– Good presentation. Fried nicely.
– Not very sweet. Too much Mayo and is bland
– Shrimp was very firm, maybe over cooked, and lacked sweetness. Didn’t taste like local shrimp.
Lump Crab Cake Sliders:
– Skin-on-fries start out good, but leave a pasty aftertaste.
– Not a lot of binder, but that made it a Very mushy crab cake.
– Lacks flavor.
Fish -N- Chips:
– Slaw has zero flavor. Tastes like it came straight from the bag.
– Kraft tartar sauce.
– Fish was fried perfectly, flaked nicely, but again, no flavor.
Waiter was sketchy when asked if their seafood was locally sourced. Said fresh catch is, and “yes, all our other seafood comes from the Atlantic region.” That’s NOT local.
Sweet Thai Chili Sauce is really bad. Tastes like Robitussin Medicine.

Have enjoyed the Monkey Junction location for years. Have recently moved to Porters Neck and have had two (2) bad experiences. First, we ordered our favorite, the Crab Bisque to go. It was so salty we could not eat so I returned and did get the promissed refund. Sunday the 15th, went for brunch and two in the party ordered the Crab cake Benedict. After waiting far to long for our meals, the poached eggs were hard poached with no run in them at all, burnt toast and skimpy on the hollindaise sauce. Should have never made it out of the kitchen. We thought to fix with more sauce. When the waitress came, we pointed out the hard poached eggs and toast but she took no action to remedy. not even an apology or ask how to make it right. So we asked for additional sauce. We then ordered a Cheeseburger to go thinking 10-15 minutes would be plenty of time. It took 30 minutes for our cheeseburger to arrive. Not sure why the kitchen was so slow on both orders. Not sure we will ever go back.

We eat here all the time for the fresh fish. They also have a private room in the back for large party’s which is nice when you have a loud family. The crab dip and risotto cakes are awesome. Hush puppies are also good

I like the store overall but the flounder had a greasy taste and a bit gritty texture which I was not used to. I normally eat in but was on my way to work so the young staff at the door was deeply engaged in their conversation so I was misguided on the direction to go pick up my food. Hospitality goes a long way especially with the prices people are paying to dine there.

I have eaten at this restaurant many times. Today was a takeout order. It was super fresh and hot .The Flounder Basket is amazing.the fish was flakey, lightly battered, not greasy at all- absolutely incredible. So many fries ! Not sure if they double fry, but delicious.The coleslaw is also great & I always get it when I’m there. 10 out of 10 will definitely be going back again and again.
