We’ve been here a few times since Cantina Nicola has had new owners. Sooo good!! We were with a large group so got to try lots of dishes. It was the second time I have had the prawn cerviche roja. Like the first time, left thinking about when I can eat it again! Hard to pick a favourite dish – they were all super fresh, sassy, tasty authentic mexican. Lovely team taking care of us. Great atmosphere. Hope I can get a table next time!

First time visiting since the change of ownership and I really enjoyed it. The food feels way more authentic now and full of flavour. Don’t be put off by a few low reviews — we had a great experience and would happily come back.

Loved the new menu!! Food was fantastic reminded me of my time spent in Mexico!! It has definitely become more authentic than it used be – thankfully no burritos for the tex-mex brigade! Look past the poor reviews these are written by peops who don’t know real Mexican food!! Definitely will be back! Muchas gracias la comida estaba deliciosa

It really guts me to have to leave a negative but constructive comment however Nicholas Cantina used to be consistently amazing food. Some friends and I dined here this evening and had not realised the new take over. Unfortunately the standard of food is not what it used to be and the menu has changed, leaving out many a favourite meal from the previous one. Flavourless and doughy tortillas, fish with bones and chewy steak. The half chicken was the only meal that was finished, however to pay $38 for a meal you might expect more than what you actually receive. The service from the 5 wait staff was below par, never once during our meal were we asked the age old question “how is the meal?” or “can I get you another drink?”. The owner was only made aware of our concerns of the meal at payment time, which I do have to mention she rectified these opinions with a discount however at this stage of the evening for us, it was a little to late. Hopefully with more time the menu changes, some favourites are brought back and the service and quality of food improves.

I brought a group of ladies here from out of town and we had such a ball! Our waitresses were so sweet and accomodating!! Was my first time visiting since the change in ownership and a complete change of menu – all plates are made for sharing and so fresh and delicious!! and all gluten free! Thank you!! :))

Literally the cutest place ever! The staff were so nice and the food was DELICIOUS OMG. I got the half chicken tacos and shared with my partner as well as the corn and chips w guac. Literally amazing and the staff were so sweet. Will definitely be back if visiting nelson! X

Amazing food! Wonderful, authentic experience in Nelson for Mexican food. Since moving from California, definitely something I had been missing. Taquitos and carne asada were my favorite. We will definitely be back!

I went there super excited as I haven’t been in Nelson for awhile and was looking forward to the delicious food that is usually served. I was severely disappointed when I saw the menu, charging $20 for 2 gluten free tacos and hardly and options. I talked to waitress to see if there was more options and was disappointed when they said there wasn’t even a burrito. Anyway we ordered regardless, getting corn chips and tacos. They corn chips were stale and tasted like packet chips not even fresh. The taco tortilla was so gross, and the taco overall tasted so flavourless. So disappointed I hope they change this as the original Nicola Cantena was amazing.
