As someone who’s Colombian and knows good empanadas, I was really excited to see this food truck and give it a try. Unfortunately, it ended up being a big disappointment.
I ordered a few empanadas. They were bigger than expected, which was nice, but that’s about where the positives stopped. The dough tasted more like regular flour than corn flour—not authentic at all. At $5 each, I was hoping for something great, but the flavor was bland and underwhelming. Even the aji lacked any real flavor.
On top of that, I waited nearly 30 minutes for the order. For that kind of wait and price, I expected a much better experience.
If you’re after real Colombian food, I’d skip this spot. Go to El Cafetal in Nampa for the real deal. And if it’s just empanadas you’re craving, check out Tango’s just down the street—they do it way better.

Arroz con pollo was a fail. Poor quality boiled chicken. We couldn’t eat the meal. The fries were cardboard. Super disappointed for my first time trying Columbian food. The one good thing was the beef empanadas. Will not be eating there again. Took 25 minutes and no line.

The best Colombian food I have ever tasted in the United States, I have been in the country for 10 years and definitely the generous empanadas and full of coffee and chicken, the paisa tray with perfect crunchy chicharron and the beans took me back to Colombia, thank you very much for this delicious meal.

Absolutely delicious Colombian food! My kids and I loved every bite. The service was outstanding — the lady was so kind, helpful, and welcoming. Great food + amazing customer service = our new favorite spot! Highly recommend! ️

We went to the location they have in food court at the Boise Towne Square Mall. IT WAS DELICIOUS! My husband and I were extremely pleased with our food and the prices were excellent.
Combo #2 is what my husband and I both had. I favored the beef empanada over the chicken, but everything was actually fabulous, no complaints

I only wish I had found this place sooner but I’m glad I eventually did because I have discovered a gem. This is my 3rd time now ordering from Candela Viva as I have been working my way around the entire menu and it’s all just so amazing and delicious You can tell they make it with love and are passionate about their business, plus you get serious bang for your buck. I highly recommend to anyone.

I’ve been all over the western US. Lived here in Idaho the longest. I’m very picky about food and specifically food trucks. I stopped by tonight after work and had the pollo rellenas. And it took me to Columbian heaven. SO GOOD! Candela Viva puts every Idaho restaurant to shame. Except Kyoto hibachi, they’re great too. Gracias! I will bring everyone here. ❤️❤️❤️ Edit: my only complaint is that I wish the salsa was more spicy, it was still very good.

I ordered some empanadas and the fried potato With beef. I have had colombian food from around the world. I give this a poor review because the empanadas and the fried potato were stuffed with a lot of other items and little beef. There was an entire boiled egg in it. And also potato filling. In summary , there is more filling than beef Which makes it not good. When you buy it in panada you want it to have meat in it Not stopped with a bunch of filler , highly disappointed.
