We came here unplanned and turns out to be a very lucky find! Highly recommend those planning a day trip to Montauk from the west to stop by as your lunch stop. We had the Lobster Rolls (the smaller option is enough for two!) and clam chowder, and the Little Neck Clam. All were in the Excellent ranking. The waitress was extremely friendly and attentive.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Canal Cafe, and it was an unforgettable experience. The highlight of my visit was the lobster roll, which was simply divine. Generously filled with succulent, fresh lobster, perfectly seasoned, and served on a buttery, toasted bun, it was the best I’ve ever had. The setting was charming, with a relaxing ambiance and friendly staff that made the experience even more enjoyable. Canal Cafe is a must-visit for anyone looking to enjoy exceptional seafood in a delightful atmosphere.

This is a local establishment offering some local fare, like clams, and orher seafood.

The place is small and can get busy, but have a drink and time will pass by quickly.

Service was good and then they’d forget about us intil we summoned someone, and then they’d be back on track.

The salad was a little wilted.

The guacamole was delicious and the chips were crispy.

The clams in broth were yummy. The bread is good and hot!

We had a good time.

Def gets crowded so prepare to wait as reservations are not accepted. outside is where you wanna be! fresh seafood and the large lobster roll is truly large – enough for two of us to share. it comes on a rectangular ciabatta roll.
don’t love that they use plastic forks (from an environmental and experience perspective). service was adequate:

A beautiful day on East End. Decided to hit Canal Cafe for lunch. Atmosphere was perfect. Bright sun.. lots of nice boats.. great food and a staff that is so accommodating and friendly. Isha (spelling!?) was just incredible and smiled the whole time and was very attentive. The whole staff works well together. Love this place!!

OMG this place was a gem in disguise. We brought our dog here and got greeted with more than love. They even gave him a dog bowl with water. The are very pet friendly here and love to see people with them aswell. The food was amazing. The seafood I had was incredible. The calamari was most definitely my favorite. The seats are very comfy even doe they dont look like it. It’s such a beautiful place here. Your by the water (bring a sweater just in case) great atmosphere even better staff. Brianna the greeter was a sweetheart and Brittany was our server and she did an amazing job. Very attentive and friendly aswell. The bathroom was spacious and clean. They dont serve the drinks with straws so dont bother asking. The venue is an eco friendly place. Very well versed in different food to serve and very flavorful but If you have a palate that is not ready for spice make sure you say something when ordering food. Not all was spicy but we learned the hard way. All the food was still delicious. We will return again. The drinks we got were very well made. If you like strong drinks try the “High Maintenance” cocktail. They have wines and beers aswell. The inside looked very spacious and quaint at the same time. It was worth the experience. Thank you very much for a great time. My fiance and myself look forward to seeing you all again. Parking is tricky by the way. Great spot for romantic dates or family gatherings and best of all your pets can join. Enjoy.

My wife and I accidentally sat down before the hostess took us to our seat. We didn’t cut the line, it was our turn,
A young woman, blonde with curly hair, working the bar proceeded to completely embarrass us in front of all the customers. She refused to bring us a menu.
She was condescending and told us we would sit there all day till we went back to the hostess.
Now I’ll share this feedback with everyone I know. Based on the lousy customer service reviews this place has gotten in the past, I’m sure ownership won’t give a damn anyway.
Maybe someday they won’t be so busy and customer service will become paramount to them. Hopefully.
Btw. Food was excellent and our waitress was perfect.
Never going back.

If you’re looking for a lobster roll DO NOT COME HERE

If you’re looking for shredded overpriced lobster salad on a ciabatta roll (with barely any lobster meat and tons of filler) this is your place!!!

I was speechless when the “lobster roll” arrived for $44

Went with my hb for brunch and food was really good. Big portions. Staff is super friendly. AMAZING hospitality. Unfortunately we weren’t able to eat next to the water on the lower deck. There was so many ppl that day, that it was hard not to sit down and hear everyone’s conversation.

Open and ready for the 2019 season, the Canal Cafe offers you a great chance to enjoy waterfront dining inside or out. There is a casual atmosphere here and in summertime you can a front row seat for boat watching on the Shinnecock Canal. Nightly specials are always the first place to check and then you have a delightful array of soups and chowders, oysters and shrimp appetizers just to name a few. I think their homemade sun dried hummus to be exceptional and their salads are fresh, crisp and dressed to be devoured. You have a nice selection of fresh fish to choose from as well as traditional favorites. In season you will likely wait for a table but they offer a few tables to sit at while you wait and there are boat slips showcasing some serious boaters loves. They serve a picturesque marguerita too. Even a visit here in the cooler months brings summertime to your senses.
