This food was absolutely delicious! The Brisket melted in my mouth, the chicken fell off the bones & the sides were tasty. The only issue was that my stomach isn’t big enough to eat it all in one sitting ! The service was great…the food was even better. (My pic doesn’t do it justice… but trust me)

This place grossed me out from the moment I walked in. Staff was walking around the kitchen (which is viewable from the ordering area) eating pizza. Here is a photo of a half eaten slice just sitting on the countertop next to someone’s food and seemingly a rag and cleaning bucket. I didn’t order meat because I didn’t trust the prep and food safety. The green beans tasted like butter and salt. They did not seem to take pride in their professionalism and sanitary conditions. The prices were also expensive given the mediocre quality. I don’t like leaving bad reviews because it is people’s livelihood owing restaurants but they need to step it up.

Menu limited and outside of sampler platters, you pay separately for your sandwich or other main option and sides. Example, had the pulled pork (delicious) $11 and then paid $4 for side of coleslaw. You have to order at the counter, sit, and then wait for someone to bring it to your table. You get your own drinks, silverware, etc. Atmosphere has a rustic feel, music was loud. Staff was very nice and polite. Great place for lunch or dinner but wouldn’t choose this location for something special.

We stayed at Blackwater Falls State Park and went adventuring out to the local area. When it came time for lunch, we found this restaurant since we love BBQ. We entered and met with Chloe behind the counter, who was very nice. She explained the ordering process. I ordered the ½ chicken ($13) with baked beans ($4) and my wife ordered the Entrée Salad, ($12.00). While the food was excellent tasting, the Chicken was “cool”. Since we were the first or second customers of the day, I would have thought it should be hot. However, since the baked beans were scorching hot, I was able to dip the chicken in it and heat it up. We enjoyed our lunch and recommend this location for great BBQ.

Came here for lunch after multiple people suggested it to me. I went with the pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw added on top as suggested by staff. They were right, it was amazing and huge portions! The potato salad is freshly made each day and is a grest side choice. They have their house bbq sauce and also a spicy smokey flavor sauce. Both were really good, but the spicy smoke was my favorite.
Lots of seating and even some outdoor seating for in the summer time. Couple TVs above the bar end to catch a game while you eat or have a few drinks.

If you like bbq, I highly suggest stopping here. Also very reasonably priced across the board.

First time at Canaan Valley BBQ and we had an awesome experience! We ordered the sampler and they were willing to substitute a dozen wings instead of the half chicken. The food came out hot and delicious. The brisket was moist and tender and the ribs were finished in bbq sauce and were great as well. We had to wait a bit for them to make a fresh batch of mac n cheese, but they told us about the wait upfront when we ordered. They even gave us a complimentary brownie. Josie, the manager, was very friendly as she was hard at work both taking orders and bussing tables. We met Matt, the owner, and complimented him on our great experience and that we too were avid bbq smokers and he offered to give us a tour of their process from start to finish. It’s hard for me to believe some of the negative reviews when we had such an awesome experience. We’ll definitely be back when we visit the area in the future! Thanks Canaan Valley BBQ!!!

We were traveling through our home state of West Virginia in the vicinity of Canaan Valley State Park and decided to stop here at Canaan BBQ to grab something along the way.

Knowing the area somewhat, we expected that it was there to take advantage of the park and ski area, which caters to folks from the larger cities in DC, Northern VA etc!

We felt that the place was somewhat overpriced as we ordered what they call “Double Trouble” consisting of 1/2 lb pulled pork, 1/2 of a chicken, 2-pint sized sides and cornbread. The meats were well prepared and flavorful as was the Mac and cheese. The green beans had absolutely no seasoning but were cooked correctly, the corn bread was small and quite dry. All that said, it was pricey considering portion size ( which is listed as a meal to share ) and the overall quality!

The restaurant was well appointed and maintained. It was also clean as far as I saw.

The staff was helpful and friendly and they stayed busy all the time.

We had dinner at this gem in the WV high country recently. The brisket was juicy with a flavorful crust and the 1/2 chicken was glazed with a sweet BBQ crispy skin. You order at the counter and the food is served at your table. Our side dishes were quite tasty but the cornbread was a touch on the dry side.
Overall a highly recommended dinner BBQ location. Check the opening time before making a stop.

My fiancé and I rolled in pretty late on a Sunday night feeling a little bad for coming in near closing time. Fortunately for us, Canaan Valley BBQ has the nicest staff ever who made us feel warm and welcomed while we ordered and waited for our carry out! The food was also incredibly delicious (Recommend the pulled pork Sandwich and the Nachos!). Will definitely stop in again next time we are in the area!

The one pound pulled pork family size with two potatoes buns were juicy and smoked perfectly. Their signature sauce (made there) was not too sweet and not too spicy. The staff were very friendly and waitress checked on us often. She was a wonderful lady. Beautiful views of the Canaan area while eating indoors or outside in a pet friendly eating area in grass. It was on the “higher side” concerning pricing, but it was a lot of food and well worth it. They do have a small bar type area in their large open dining area. Highly recommended.
