Looks can be deceiving. This is a great place to get seafood/mariscos. Although the location is small, the quality and quantity of the food is great. Worth the drive, hands down. If you dine in you get free camaron consome while you wait for your food and it is delicious. The plates were generous and filling. I especially liked the fried Tilapia.

The food was excellent! I enjoyed the consōme! Garlic shrimp with white rice and garlic bread along with crab salad and regular salad! Awesome food! I will definitely go back!

From the moment we walked into Camaron Vaquero, we felt welcomed by a warm, friendly staff and a cozy, unpretentious atmosphere that put us right at ease. Nestled on S. Pulaski, this little seafood/Mexican–mariscos gem is a hidden treasure in Chicago.

We started with the complimentary shrimp consommé, which arrived piping hot and beautifully seasoned — a thoughtful touch that set the tone for the entire meal. For our entrees, my partner ordered the spicy camarones a la diabla, and I opted for the grilled shrimp plate. Both were cooked to perfection — succulent, flavorful, and generous in portion. Each dish arrived with sides of crisp salad and slaw, which balanced the richness of the seafood beautifully.

One of the things we loved most is that Camaron Vaquero is BYOB, so we were able to bring our own drinks to pair with our meal. The laid-back, almost homey vibe made the experience feel like dining in a friend’s home kitchen — genuine, down-to-earth, and full of flavor.

The service was attentive without being intrusive, and every interaction from start to finish made us feel valued as guests. Portions were generous enough that neither of us left hungry (and we certainly didn’t feel like we overpaid for what we got).

If you’re looking for seafood with authentic Mexican-mariscos flair in Chicago — somewhere with character, bold flavors, and a personal touch — Camaron Vaquero is absolutely worth a visit. We’ll be going back

I am all about service when it comes to choosing somewhere to eat. And definitely don’t want to come back with the staff being rude to me. I will go somewhere else.

Nice, small restaurant. We went to celebrate a friend’s birthday. All the staff was great and so does the food. First time there I loved it.

Nice cozy place. Very good sea food. They have Birria on the weekends. Also very good. They give you a nice little cup of broth to start which is a nice touch. Staff was friendly and attentive. BYOB is is an awesome touch.

I really enjoyed my first visit, and will come back again. The complimentary shrimp consome is delicious, full flavored, spiced but not spicy, and carries wonderful flavors of the ocean with a light touch. The Camarón Vaquero plate was mildly spiced, but had lots of garlic and butter flavors. Very doable for those who don’t like a lot of heat. With the crab salad and avocado provided, along with some hot sauce and their creamy seafood sauce, these shrimp make great tacos. Jamaica was good; not too sweet like some places make it. I was excited that they had Guayaba, but it was on the sweeter side and I couldn’t drink it. I wasn’t going to let my preference for the less sweet dictate the loss of a star.
