The atmosphere was nice. I loved their music playlist, 70s and 80s. Did I say I loved it ?
It was tasteful, cozy, inviting and warmly decorated. I believe we sat on the Cantina side. There is a bar seating area and another seating area as well.
Tables are situated in nice proximity from others. Noise level is per table.
The food was fabulous. Spiced at a great level. I like a lot of flavor. We had the 3 course special, tortilla soup, 3 tacos and for dessert, a bunuelos.
The pricing was excellent as well in observance of Restaurant Week. But looking at their menu, their prices in general were great anyway.
The hostess was very pleasant and did an excellent job of taking care of the patrons.
Sommelier, Mr. Andrew Spence, stopped at each table and engaged with everyone, even assisting with serving some of the meals. Excellent!!!! I appreciated seeing that.
Renowned chef, Mr. Rhea Brown, even came and spoke to us. I have frequented several of his restaurants around Chicago in the past including the Signature Room. And I have always been impressed and fed deliciously.
I live in Chicago but ventured out this way to try something different and I’m glad I did! You will be too!!
House margaritas- there was an off-putting flavor in this that is unlike your typical lime margarita.
Guacamole- serves 2-3 people & has some kick which I enjoyed. Plenty of chips were provided but heavy on the salt. Not sure this is worth $14 though.
Elote- the table’s favorite but again, not worth $8 for seasoned corn & cheese
Salmon tiradito- aside from the guac & elote, this was probably the most flavorful dish. The salmon was fresh & delicious. There was a good balance of spice & citrus. However, the portion for $20 was really lacking due to the incredibly thin slices. You can find full salmon entrees elsewhere for that price.
Baha fish tacos & carne asada tacos- the tortillas were basically cold and these severely lacked flavor. The carne asada was chewing and both could have used more meat and sauce. For $22 & $20, you should get more than 3 mediocre street tacos.
The menu is small and pricey so you would think that quality and care is put into each item. Despite the disappointing food, the ambience of the place is nice and the service was good. I’d like to hope the food will improve over time.
