I just stopped by to grab a quick small bite. Crab dip was ok. Smash burger and fries were very good. Yelling always on point. Service was great by the waitress and some guy, maybe the bartender often came by my table and checked in on me. Thanks. I will hopefully catch the owner next time.

On Mother’s Day I treated my son, his wife and two boys 14 and 9 to lunch – this restaurant is 10 minutes from their home. We were seated right away with our reservation at a circular table which we prefer. Drink service was fast, by Suze, who has a sparkling personality! Our crab dip and cream of crab soups came soon, both perfectly scrumptious. The main courses were superior in flavor and presentation: scallops and fingerling potatoes, filet and crab combination, a lovely chicken dish, plus Smash burgers for the boys. The 14-year old said he loved every bite.

We were also tended to constantly by Jacob, also very personable. We sent regards to the chef and the owner came to the table to thank us. We really enjoyed our experience: the seating, the new decor, the meals, service and ambiance.

One should expect to pay a healthy price for excellent food, so I didn’t blink at the bill, which I covered – it adds up to a memorable family experience.

Parking was easy and noise level inside was perfect. Best dining experience any of us have had for a while. We’ll definitely go back!

Let’s start by saying the service was great; no complaints there. The place also looks nice and was reasonably clean.
Now, for the food.
My 5-year-old had chicken tenders with fries. It was okay for $10, but the chicken was patently over-fried and a bit dry. The fries were the supermarket-bag style, not made in-house.
My 8-year-old had the mac and cheese, which was $8, plus an additional $6 for the “Jumbo lump crab” extra. I don’t expect a lot of crab for $6, but I do expect more than what you could (or, rather, couldn’t) see in the picture. On top of that, the dish was incredibly bland. Each time you tried to grab a bite, you got the distinct smell and feeling reminiscent of spoiled meat. I don’t want to judge; maybe it was a spice that didn’t agree with us, but my 8-year-old refused to eat it, and I couldn’t either. We are not picky eaters.
My wife’s dish was $28 for literally four scallops. Now, I’ve been to high-end restaurants where such a portion might be justified by a certain level of service and execution. However, the service, plating, and ambiance here were that of a family restaurant or diner, not fine dining. The scallops themselves were okay (credit where credit’s due), but they came with a half-spoiled salad—I’ve attached pictures, including one of the salad, though it might be hard to discern just how bad it was from the photo alone—capers that were way past their prime, and potatoes that were barely “okay.” The overall quality was, unfortunately, consistent with the rest of our meal.
My own dish was chicken Chesapeake for $35. Again, it came with a half-spoiled salad and a passable baked potato. The chicken was the driest I’ve had in a lifetime, and the crab imperial gave me the same impression as the one my son had on his mac and cheese. It smelled almost like it had been prepared with cheap provolone. I didn’t find a single significant piece of crab in it; for all I can tell, it could have been made with crab leftovers.
We are local and will never, under any circumstances, return.

Was expecting a better experience after the recent publicity, but left there disappointed. Staff was nice, but service was slow (20 mins to get drinks and take our order), restaurant was stuffy and hot, my drink was wrong (but was later fixed by owner, thank you), and my hubby’s pasta dish was super oily, and kid’s mac’n cheese had crab on it but didn’t mention that on the menu. On the other hand – he french onion soup was very good, my crab imperial, potato, and salad were delish, and my kid’s bacon chicken sandwich and fries were awesome. After spending $150, we felt let down. Maybe it was an off night? Not in a hurry to go back, even after receiving an 15% promotion for next time.

We went to Callahan’s in Frederick, MD for Christmas Eve dinner, and it was such a special experience for our family. From the moment we walked in, we were met with incredible service: attentive, caring, and truly family-friendly.

They had coloring books for the kids, wonderful appetizers, and absolutely great food. Our server, Cayla, and manager Jeri, went above and beyond in every way (amongst other staff members). She brought treats for the kids, and even arranged a call from Santa, which completely made our children’s night.

We left feeling full, not just from the food, but from the warmth and hospitality. Thank you to Jeri and the entire Callahan’s team for creating such a memorable Christmas Eve for our family. We can’t wait to come back, and highly recommend!

Wow! I wanted to love this place after Gordon Ramsey had been here but honestly I Loved their old menu/food 100% better than the new food/menu. The crab dip is SUPER rich and chips would be much better with it than the bread bowl but honestly the dip was mostly cheese and not much flavor. The bang bang shrimp was good but not anything like Bonefish’s. My salad on my plate was luke warm and had NO flavor. The baked potato was perfect. My filet i paid $40 for was VERY tiny and had a strip of fat on 1 side. And sadly was NOT cooked medium it cooked it VERY well done. The crab cakes were OK. Oh and the worst part–The brussel sprouts. I was SO happy to see them on the menu. Then they come out and some were next to raw, some were cooked right BUT not all were cut in half and the ends cut off!!! There was BIG thick hard ends! Who does that?? That’s just lazy!! The Waitress was very sweet and friendly. I’m sorry Callahan’s but we won’t be rushing back anytime soon!

We were able to visit Callahan’s Seafood bar & Grill tonight, 3/12/25. The 2nd day after there reopening. They renovated the interior of the restaurant and a new menu. The rumors are that Gordon came in and filmed for a show of his. We met with one of the owners tonight. She was very nice, friendly, and was very informational about the restaurant and new menu. She did confirm that there was some professional help creating the new menu (Im assuming it was the celebrity chef). We will have more videos and info on Instagram and YouTube of our night at Callahan’s! It was a great night out. The food, staff, and atmosphere was great! From the coffee to the homemade desserts, this place is a must visit no matter if you’re a local or just passing through!

I dream about the stuffed salmon. It’s excellent – I’ve eaten at Gordon Ramsay’s Michelin star restaurant, and the salmon at Callahan’s is better. Comes with a generous portion of crab imperial.

The food here has been consistently good – it’s one of our favorite seafood restaurants in Frederick. Service is decent. The place isn’t fancy, but it’s good food.
