Callahan’s Mountain Lodge offers a truly special mountain setting with a sense of history, charm, and quiet beauty that’s hard to find anymore. What really stands out is the dedication of the entire staff—from the front desk to housekeeping, and especially the kitchen team, who work diligently to elevate both the food and overall dining experience for guests.
The lodge provides more than just a place to stay, with thoughtful amenities like a gym, game room, conference room, and the Mt. Ashland Room, where special events and banquets are hosted with care. While there is always room for continued improvement—as with any historic property—the heart, effort, and intention behind the guest experience are clearly felt. With ongoing refinement and teamwork, Callahan’s continues to grow into an even more welcoming and memorable mountain destination.

Callahan’s is going back to it’s roots. They’ve already brought back Nilde’s recipes for the meat sauce and are working on bringing back the veal scalopinni. The prime rib in the stroganoff was melt in your mouth tender with caramelized onions and mushrooms covered in a delicious creamy sauce. Highly recommend the citrus grove sangria. We had an amazing night meeting Mark, the owner and catching up with Brian Callahan himself. Our waiter Mike took fantastic care of us.

My wife and I invited some friends to Callahan’s to celebrate our friend’s birthday.
By way of background, she is a vegetarian. She does, however, indulge in a burger once or twice a year, so it’s a special occasion for her.
When ordering, she made it clear that wanted some “pink” in the meat. The server asked if she wanted “medium-well” and she clarified that it needed to lean toward being rare.
When served, she cut into the burger and it was clearly, well done. We got the attention of the server and she had it sent back. The remainder of us had been served, which led us to having to slowly work thru our meal to better match the timing of hers.
When her burger was brought back, it was a carbon copy of the first; well done.
At no time did the server return to check on her, or us for that matter. He was busy with rearranging the table and chairs for a large group.
Following our visit, I called the restaurant and asked to speak with the manager. The person who answered wanted to know what it was about. I told him that it was to provide some feedback for our meal. He asked again what it was about. It was clear that he was interested in hearing my complaint and not referring me to the manager. I gave him a brief description of our experience and he referred me to their head chef. I spoke with him and described our experience. He apologised, stating that they pride themselves on serving their burgers as requested. He stated that he hoped we would have a better experience on our next visit.
Not only was the meal disappointing, but my attempt at speaking with someone in management was an exercise in frustration,
We will not be returning and I would suggest that others consider our experience before choosing this place for a meal.

I’m so thankful that this place is still going strong. I love riding up to have lunch with friends in the summer and then ski at Mt Ashland and eat in the winter. The food is delicious and the people are incredibly kind. Thanks!!

They are horrible!! We went there and all the workers where tweekers, the food was cold, the waitress had no idea who’s food was who’s, she was all over the place.
