Originally California Underground started out as a taco joint, and they serve delicious tacos, burritos, quesadillas, taco bowls and more.
However, NOW, they started to serve breakfast and boy oh boy…. This is probably going to be my new breakfast spot in hull! Everything was delicious from the breakfast burrito, to the corn beef hash, and they even serve shakshouka! I haven’t found a place that serves shakshouka in town and as someone who loves Mediterranean food this was certainly a welcoming addition!
Everything seemed very fresh and homemade, and the prices were very fair! Don’t pass up on their new breakfast menu, and certainly don’t pass up on the lunch and dinner that they have been serving up for years now!

Everything was clean; lots of people; quick service; good food!
We’ve visited several times, both just my wife & I, and in larger groups. Every time, the food is very satisfying, and the spice guide on the menu has matched our tastes perfectly.
Take out for 4 last night (7/12/24) was perfect – combo of taco, taco bowl & burrito were right on the money for flavor, heat, and quality!

We had a wonderful experience last night as we met with old friends for dinner. It was very quiet/pretty empty for a Friday night.
Our server, Blue, was thoroughly entertaining and handled every question quickly & professionally. Even when we were “off menu” she said “we’ll figure something out” to such an extent that I commented she must be good at improv, where the mantra is always “Yes, and”
The drinks were delicious and instead of salting the rim of the glass, Blue said they offer a spice rub option, which made a huge improvement! Once again, we wandered off-center of the menu and Blue figured out a way to accommodate our requests. She answered questions, told stories, took photos… and she even ran us down as we reached our nearby cars to present my wife with her phone! That alone was worth the generous tip we left, as she saved my return trip to the restaurant after my wife would have realized she left her phone behind!
The dinners were tasty and filling. Great job!
Subsequently, I learned the following night, Saturday night, there would be live entertainment!

It was a Monday night there was nobody in there except one other person at the bar. The kitchen was still open and there was a very nice bartender. She was very nice and we chit-chatted it a little, I got a couple of delicious tacos in a really delicious pomegranate margarita I’m happy I went there and I will stop in again!

This was a nice bar right across the street from the beach. It had a cool Mexican/surf vibe to it. The place was small but it didn’t fee cramped with the number of tables. Only had a couple of drinks there but it was good. Would go back to try the food.

Pretty great. A little over priced, but delicious! Definitely a great addition to hull. Chips seemed store bought, which was a little disappointing. All the sauces were great. The mahi was on point. Great beach tacos.

EDIT: bizarre political programming on the vast televisions drove many away in the second year. Food has changed but it’s still a strange regional variation on tacos. Service has flipped many times. Losing stars.
A strong showing in its first week, this neighborhood bar features a build-your-own taco menu and fresh guacamole a well as a fully stocked bar with a refreshingly festive drink menu. The clientele was an interesting mix of people trying out a new place and seeking to support a local business. It clearly already has a strong following and if the kinks are worked out before summer (running out of chicken, narrow beer selection, and the paper plates are fairly tacky, though it’s not totally insensible), California Underground stands to do very well. This review will be updated.

Delicious fish tacos. Fun drinks. Small place but really the perfect size. 8 or 10 seats at the bar. Same number of small tables. Middle of the day on a weekend was great. Bartender was also the waitress. She took the time to make us a couple of creative drinks. Also had a house margarita which was good. Been there 10 or 15 times and have only tried the fish tacos. No reason to stray from them!

Service is always fast, food is delightful. Quesadillas are so good that you might have to order a second one even though the first one is very filling and you cant go wrong with the tacos. Gabe the bartender was very friendly and great with drink recommendations. Highly recommend..
