I had such a wonderful experience at California Gyro and Kabobs (5925 Birdcage Centre Ln, Citrus Heights, CA 95610)! Their evening buffet is amazing and very vegetarian-friendly, which I really appreciated.
Mohammad is an amazing manager, and the entire staff is so friendly—everyone greets you with a smile, which makes the experience even better. The place was packed on a Friday evening, and I can see exactly why!
I especially loved the okra dish, rice pilaf, pasta, yogurt sauce, and unlimited lemon drinks. The fresh fries were crispy and delicious, and the phirni with fresh fruit was the perfect way to end the meal. What stood out to me was that none of the dishes were too spicy or too sweet—everything was perfectly balanced.
I also learned that the dishes change every few days, which makes me excited to come back and try new items again soon. The ambiance is awesome, and being right next to Target makes it super convenient too.
Definitely a 10/10 experience—highly recommend checking out this gem!

The food tasted like it was used from yesterday. VERRRRRYYY DRY all around. The ingredients weren’t fresh, for example the cucumbers. Service – an 8 year old could have done better. I wouldn’t suggest eating here, we only came because they had a 4 star review, but definitely not a 4 star restaurant. They have signs outside and inside the restaurant asking customers not to waste food… we’re wasting the food because it’s just not good.. I’m sorry.

Absolutely disgusting. This place is filthy from top to bottom. The floors were sticky, tables hadn’t been wiped properly, and the restrooms were downright revolting. I honestly questioned how this restaurant is allowed to operate.
The food was just as bad — it tasted old and poorly handled, which is terrifying considering the lack of cleanliness. I lost my appetite immediately.
Staff didn’t seem to care at all, and the overall attitude was careless and unprofessional. Eating here felt unsafe.

The lamb and beef gyro was the best I’ve ever had! The plate look like it had been prepared by a food stylist. The staff was so kind and friendly. The place is incredibly clean and the decor is lovely. Very reasonable prices.

Do not go there. They are lying and what they showed in the video is not true. I waited more than two hours for my food. The rice was only wet with water and oil on top, and the chicken was raw with blood on it. They are dishonest and misleading. Look at the pictures

– They keep napkin and plates away and you have to keep asking for it.
– The food taste and quality should be improved as they don’t taste traditional Afghan food and too greasy and salty.
– They should greet people at checkin and checkout. Person at checkout was rude. Tip is voluntary not mandatory.
– The food temperature was low and not sure if they were freshly made.
