Very classy dining experience. Beautiful setting. Menu is just large enough to make you ponder what you want as everything looks tasty, but not too big you give up.
We ordered a round of drinks that were great. And reasonably priced!
Bread and butter was served. We started with the truffle fries. So good! And why was the ketchup extra good!
I ordered the blanched pear salad. I’m definitely coming back for that! Delicious
Our table got the prime rib special which was tender, the chicken Marsala which was juicy and the sauce was wonderful, the chicken parmigiana which was good but not great. Could use a bit more seasoning. I got the rack of lamb and did not disappoint. Very tender and not gamey.
Then ordered creme brule which was perfect. My favorite dessert. Also got the peach cobbler which in our opinion could have used a bit more sweetness, maybe brown sugar?
The whole wait staff was super friendly and you can tell they’re really trying to provide excellent service. I would say though “have more fun with your guests”. For only being open for little over a week super impressed and am looking forward to coming back for dinner, lunch and breakfast!
I wish you all the success! (Hope you don’t mind I have a bit of constructive criticism; I only want you all to succeed)
The standout was the French Dip. If you are a fan of Philippe’s in Los Angeles, you have to try the French Dip at the California Bistro. It might actually be much better that The Original French Dip at Philippe’s! The beef on the California Bistro’s French Dip is thinly sliced with perfectly seared edges that add an incredible “pop” of flavor. Unlike the typical thin au jus, their “dip” is a rich, savory gravy made from beef drippings. It’s a total game-changer. The French Dip comes with “Frites” which I prefer to call American Fries. The American Fries are beer-battered and fried to a perfect crisp. Some of the best fries I’ve had. The waiter did offer fruit instead of fries, but the fries are so good they would be my recommendation.
Even though they’ve only been open for four weeks, the service was seamless. Our waiter was friendly, informative, and incredibly efficient. They offer different menus for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, plus an extensive bar menu.
Highly recommended for a high-quality lunch in a beautiful setting. I’ll definitely be back to try their breakfast and dinner menus!
The atmosphere at California Bistro is sophisticated but comfortable. Our server, Sergio C, was attentive and helpful in suggesting menu items. The food was flavorful and served in a timely manner. Water glasses were always full & the table was cleared quickly between courses.
This building was vacant for a long time. California Bistro is a welcome addition to the area.
