This used to be one of my favorite lunch/ dinner spots when I worked nearby. I stopped by today for old time sake and got my usual 2 item lunch combo: Pad thai, chicken satay w/ fried rice and an side bowl of red pumpkin curry. Always fresh and always good!

I’m so sad to have to write this, but it’s really upsetting. Calgang used to be ELITE! Especially their to go buffet. It’s was only $13 and it was THE BEST pad thai and panang curry I’ve ever had. Ever.
Now it’s $16, which I understand with inflation, but the food is awful! The pad thai tastes like nothing, there is nothing covering the noodles, they’re still completely white. And the pan and curry is… I can’t put my finger on it, but it’s not good at all. It mostly is just pretty spicy and tastes like salt maybe. It’s beyond disappointing. I’m literally going to give it to my chickens to eat.

Glad to have a good Thai place in town, conveniently located near Safeway. The noodles weren’t oily like all the other places in Marin and still had lots of flavor. Ordering a combination plate is a great way to try more items. Fish was unexpectedly spicy, which was slightly disappointing (couldn’t even taste it because it was so spicy) – but I’ll be back to try the other dishes.
Portion sizes are always going to be small in California… I’ll accept it eventually.

Update: came back to try other dishes! All the noodles we’ve tried so far are delicious! They accommodated my request for pad-woon-sen (glass noodles) even though it’s not on the menu, so that warrants a 5-star rating!

Do NOT get their combination plate. The food literally tastes like it’s been sitting out forever. The pad Thai tasted disgusting and the noodle was partially hardened with the first bite. The red curry was also not good, the chicken was mushy. I tried to take the combo plate back and just order an actual dish bc my partner had the stir fry dish and it was good but the server still wanted to charge us full price for the combo plate even though it sat there untouched after the first two bites. Then he agreed to just charge us half (so like $8 for nothing) since I got the fried rice dish instead. The fried rice was literally wet and not at all like actual fried rice. Probably never coming back.

I get to go and it’s impeccably packaged, hot with great portions.

Ordered green beans and red curry with chicken and pumpkin for take out. Green beans were tasty but the curry was poor. Chicken seemed not fully cooked in some of the larger pieces. In fact, myself and my partner both felt slightly unwell in the GI area for the rest of the afternoon. Also, suspect they do actually use MSG in their food as my partner is sensitive and had a reaction.

Ordered pad thai chicken. I expected the pad thai to be more stir fried. Not bad. There were prob about 5 pieces of chicken. It’s like a fast food thai place. Nice quick.

This place has been a family run, incredibly delicious marin institution for 30+ years. The food is remarkably fresh, with the same high quality everytime. I can’t believe they don’t charge more!! A must go.
