Dropped by with some friends around 5:30 for dinner, and overall it was a mixed bag. We tried a few sushi rolls that were just okay — a little heavy on the rice (my friend pointed that out right away). The panko chicken dinner, though, was a winner — super tasty, and the chicken quality was spot-on. The rice bowl had good flavor but could’ve used a little more kick. Two of us even asked for extra spice, but honestly, it didn’t seem like any was added.
The seaweed salad, on the other hand, was fresh and really good — no complaints there.
Now, here’s where things went downhill: the wine. We asked for a wine list, but our server just mentioned they only had “house wine.” We probably should’ve pressed for more info, but the place was getting busier, so we just went with it. What came out was the tiniest pour — maybe 3 ounces, in the smallest glass ever. It looked cute, at least? We laughed it off and figured, hey, it’s happy hour, let’s just get another round.
Big mistake. When we asked how much the wine was, she said $8 or $9 per glass! We were shocked — definitely not worth it for that tiny pour.
So, overall: the food was good, and we’d probably come back for a few dishes, but the wine situation was such a letdown it kind of killed the vibe. We had to buy 2 glasses to get a glass of wine!
My advice: you have been in NOLA for a while now you need to have wine glasses that suit a proper dinner and create a wine list. PSA the Wine wont go bad …

We ate here again and it still has excellent quality and very good prices. Atmosphere was great. Wasn’t crouded or loud making it easy to have a conversation. Plenty of tables and booths for seating. Had fried rice bowl which did have a lot of fried egg in it, very tasty. also had the Pork Tonkotsu bowl for $14 and it was delicious. this place is a hidden gem in old Gretna and close to Westbank Expy. Highly recommend.

First meal of the day. Got some sashimi squid eel and yellow tail. Added a glass of iced green tea and a squid salad. The green tea wasnt too strong and very drinkable. They seem to do alot of togo orders. The prices are pretty good. Wasabi always hit me pretty hard and this was no exeption. The r8ce bowl looks very good. I do recommend

I’ve been coming to cafe zen since they were located on wall blvd. I’ve been continuing to come to them since they moved to their new location. I always order the fried salmon roll. now before they never mentioned that they cut back on the roll and only serve you 4 for $12. I believe they should disclose when the menu item changes with their customers so they won’t be caught by surprised when they see four tiny pieces with no end pieces. Before you would get six or 5 depending on who cuts it, but 4 ? No thank you. A heads up would of helped cause less confusion.
