Brought home take out for lunch, was a perfect hot meal on a cold MN day!

I was pleasantly surprised to find the order was compartmentalized in take out boxes, helping to ensure things didn’t get too soggy while I brought the meal home. The broth was very warm and as mentioned above, a nice treat after a cold walk outside. The tofu had a nice crust and the sauce was delicious, the udon noodles were nice and firm and the beef complimented the broth well.

Overall a great experience and tasty food. 10/10 I will be coming back.

I have been coming here since the opening on a regular basis. It is SO GOOD!!! I am a big Udon fan (way better than ramen in my book) and have had it in Japan so can attest that this place measures up (and then some!).

My go to order: SANSAI UDON with House Broth and KARAAGE. That is a lot for one person unless you are super hungry, but the Karaage I usually take half of it home (It reheats super well under the broiler to crisp it up again).

I have also enjoyed KINOKO DONBURI and TEMAKI (Tuna & Salmon), which were great for takeout on one occasion (I added the Karaage for that order and had enough food for two meals).

This place is one of the top restaurants in Minneapolis right now, I hope it stays that way.

Recommendation: I like dining here with a friend or alone, but for the alone times I wish they would have some bar seating at the window or smaller tables (like for 2) so I am not taking up so much space if there are only big tables available.

Loved this place! The atmosphere was relaxed with a spacious dining area and the food was superb! They give you plenty of time to look at the menu before ordering at the counter. Food is then brought to your table. They also offer carry out.
Very flavorful entrees. Big portions for the bowls and reasonable prices.

I have gone to Cafe Yoto quite a few times now since moving to North Loop this past August, and I can’t recommend this place enough. If you enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine and happen to be looking for the BEST oyako donburi in the Twin Cities, you need to come to Cafe Yoto! They have an amazing selection of food, shareable’s, and beverages. Every item I have tried so far has exceeded my expectations.

(Photographed is the yakiniku donburi, miso katsu donburi, oyako donburi, and strawberry matcha latte. All are 10/10 without a doubt)

Amazing table service! Minimal decor but the space is very clean with beautiful plants. I utilized paid street parking when dining in. I ordered the match latte that was just as beautiful in person as it was online and the spicy salmon donburi. Which had a nice spice level and perfectly cooked rice. The salmon was delicious and the cucumbers gave it a nice crunch.

I would definitely stop in again and try more of the menu.

As a Northsider I appreciate having this casual Japanese dining space so close to us. My daughter is attending high school downtown and this cafe is very convenient to visit after school.
We had karaage udon a the rib eye donburi.
Both excellent dishes and filling.
Such a cute space and conveniently located.
I’m used to parking in Minneapolis so it is never really an issue for me.
My son also works near the cafe so I hope to go back and try more dishes and desserts.

Very chill and bright! Great to dine in by yourself bur also with friends! The food is great! Made to order! I enjoyed the fact that you can see into the kitchen and the staff were nice. The dashi broth is clean and perfect about of saltiness and the yuzu spritz goes great with a meal and the spicy tuna was a perfect spice and the rice in it was cooked nicely! The shrimp tempura is fresh and crispy(came with the udon)

I got the spicy tuna donburi and chicken kaarage to go. Food was good (nothing outstanding, but not bad) but portion size is very small for the price! I would come back if they consider reducing their menu price a bit.

1 out of 5 stars — “SECOND REVIEW. SAME DAY. I’M STILL TRAUMATIZED.”

Yes, I’m back. Writing a second review because I genuinely thought I was being pranked.

Café Yoto is giving modern art exhibit — not restaurant. I paid $20 for what looked like a museum display: two lonely shrimp tempuras, one cube of lemon, and a scoop of rice that looked like it came straight out of a child’s play kitchen.

The place screams “minimalist aesthetic”, but they took it way too literally. The food is so minimal it disappeared. I waited 20 minutes for what could easily fit in the palm of my hand.

North Loop, I love you, but this ain’t it. I left hungrier than when I came in — and spiritually confused.

Yoto, the much-anticipated Japanese street food concept by Chef Yo, officially opened its doors today, and it did not disappoint. From the moment you step in, the vibrant yet intimate atmosphere transports you straight to the bustling food stalls of Tokyo—where flavors are bold, and every bite tells a story.

The menu is a celebration of Japanese street food at its finest, offering everything from perfectly crisp tempura to rich, Niku Ufon, Yakiniku Donburi. Each dish reflects Chef Yo’s deep understanding of flavor balance and technique, with high-quality ingredients shining through in every bite. The temaki Mentaiko Scallop and the Ebi Shoso was a standout—crispy on the outside, soft and flavorful inside, just as it should be.

Service was equally impressive. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the food they were serving, adding to the welcoming and energetic experience.

To top it all off, dessert was a revelation. Created by pastry chef Marc Hue, the sweet offerings provided the perfect finish—a delicate fusion of Japanese tradition with modern artistry. Whether it was the matcha Ispahan Cream Puff and the Matcha Cream Cake, every bite was a masterclass in texture and taste.

Yoto is more than just a restaurant; it’s an experience—a place where Japanese street food is elevated yet remains true to its roots. With a flawless debut, Chef Yo has undoubtedly brought something special to the dining scene. This is a must-visit spot for food lovers, and I can’t wait to return.
