This is the best place to get food on Madeline Island and it doesn’t even come close. Very very very limited hours makes the place even more special when it’s open. They have a dynamic menu so apparently there’s always something new when you go. I was told by the server they’re short staffed, which is why there’s such limited hours. It’s also why the food takes so long to come out most likely. But you’re on island time, wouldn’t you rather relax and just wait for your meal to be made from scratch? I would. We got the burger and whitefish wrap and they were both great. We finished off with the lemon ricotta dessert and it was the best part of the whole meal. Everyone here was just super nice and the entire vibe was great.

My new wife and I went in for an early dinner. We started with a smoked white fish cake. The texture was like a custard that was totally unexpected but it was so good! I had the beef tenderloin and my wife had the fish entree. I don’t recall what it was but I remember it and the beef were cooked perfect. We were excited for our first visit and we were not disappointed!

We were staying in Bayfield and were planning on eating at a wonderful restaurant in town on the day of our anniversary. Our anniversary landed on a Sunday and they weren’t open for Sunday dinners yet. We read reviews and decided that Cafe Seiche might be worth the ferry trip to Madeline Island. It is a short walk to the restaurant from the ferry landing so you don’t need to bring a car. The food was excellent! The best we had so far this weekend. The waitress was wonderful and suggested a great wine to go with my almond crusted trout. My husband’s beef tenderloin was cooked to perfection. The chocolate cake with chocolate ganache was the perfect ending to our wonderful meal. The pictures don’t do it justice. We had taken some bites out of each of the plates before I remembered to take a picture. We will definitely make the trip again next time.

The food was excellent! I had the Whitefish salad sandwich and it was better than any tuna salad I’ve ever had and my wife had roast beef that was also incredible and the best part was that it was served up fresh with in about 4 minutes time which is faster than any drive-through I’ve ever been in LOL!
Kudos Cafe sachet 5 star

Omg! Sunday night of Memorial Day weekend and they’re serving lighter fare. We’re sharing a cup of celery and gorgonzola soup (wow!), a whitefish salad on a croissant (excellent), and a “too live for” chocolate truffle cake (decadent)! Happy 40th anniversary to me!

The food was first rate anywhere in the world. I had the locally sourced Whitefish which was terrific. The Trout Cake Salad was exquisite. I had some of my wife’s beef tenderloin and the best most naturally tender beef I have had in many many years. The dishes let the quality of the main ingredients speak. The sauces and presentation were balanced and done tastefully.

The whitefish roulade was outstanding. There are some public land picnic tables next door that we used to post up and enjoy our takeout during covid. They offered some to go utencils and were generous with the portions. Two entrees and two small plates was more than enough to satisfy two hungry people. The tenderloin was also delicious but I felt the whitefish really showed some talent. Polenta and some other sides could have used some salt but I’m not going to nitpick a place like this. We’re on an island and they have an amazing product. No idea how they source all this amazing local food. What a place!

Just a forewarning if you’re visiting Madeline Island during low season…this place is only available for dinner, ordering is walk-up only, and no inside seating available (very chilly to eat on the picnic table).
My experience here was strange and negative.
My partner and I were the FIRST to get in line and make an order at the window. He got a vegan entrée and I only ordered a cup of their “soup of the day.” Since I wasn’t getting much, I asked if a bowl-size is available or if they could give me more than a cup. The cashier checked if that can be done and asked one of the employees in the back. I overheard them say they no and they need to make the soup last for the NEXT TWO WEEKS…? Like excuse me? What???
The cashier said it will be ready in 25 minutes. We waited 40 minutes to be given the tiniest portion of lukewarm soup in the cup. I was super disappointed to find it was filled half way… As if they were rationing the soup. My partner who ordered a vegan entrée, had a small shallow bowl of lentils and the laziest “salad” which was just leaves of spinach…very disappointing. He said it wasn’t that filling.
We were given our order last despite being first to order. People behind us were receiving their orders first..and that was annoying and frustrating. The food was tasty but was over priced for what portions we were given. This place was unprofessional and not customer service oriented. They seem to believe they can get away with this type of service due to the limited restaurant availability on the island.
Would not recommend coming here, specifically during the off-season. You’re better off packing a pbj and hand-warmers.

We visit here every year during our anniversary trip to Madeline Island. The food here is well designed and executed. They focus on local ingredients and making dishes that are just a bit more classy than you’d expect from a little restaurant on the Island. The decor is homey, the staff is friendly, and the food is good. Definitely worth a visit!
