My wife and I ordered Cafe Rio last night for takeout. 2 bites into my standard order (shredded beef burrito double meat enchilada style) I saw something that looked like a small rubber straw sticking out at me. I grabbed it and pulled it out to find this large, what I believe to be, arterial mass. I didn’t eat another bite and won’t be eating there again. Now to be fair this isn’t a foreign object or anything in the food, this is clearly an original part of the beef it just speaks to the quality of meat they obtain to make their food with which is why I am opting to not eat there again.

Additionally my wife who is lactose intolerant ordered her burrito no cheese and it came with cheese inside and covered on top.

To their credit when she reached out to them by phone they assured us that they would initiate a refund of the order for us so they did very well on the customer service front.

Came in on a Thursday night and were severely underwhelmed. Dining area was messy, drink counter wasn’t stocked, and employees were rude. The portions were fine, but it was slow and not tidy. I don’t think there was a manager present and if there was…. they weren’t doing their job.

Note: that I’m a big fan of this restaurant chain and had a great experience when I went there Sunday afternoon for lunch. The service was friendly and the food tasted fresh and delicious. There was no line to wait so that made me even happier.

The men’s restroom was clean and had soap and paper.

The variety of sauces were nice.

The parking is ample although it does share with other retail stores so I could see it being busier during the week.

Very messy. Employees are very rude. When I checked out, I asked for a large water cup- she said ok- and then charged me almost 4 dollars for the cup. Didn’t seem apologetic at all when I asked about why I was charged for a soda- instead seemed annoyed that I was even questioning why she would charge me that much for water instead of disclosing to me up front that a large water cup costs money. She ended the conversation by saying “sorry.” without offering to resolve the misunderstanding and overcharge.

we got there at 5:00 and they ran out of rice. I understand we did come in with a bigger order, but they were mixing up our orders and adding things we didn’t buy. No offense but the communication wasn’t there. whoever is managing doesn’t really know what they are doing. an employee was wearing an AirPod and he wouldn’t listen to us. It wasn’t that busy and when they told us they didn’t have rice we asked for extra meat and the lead didn’t even acknowledge what we said. the store was a mess. I’m a manager at a restaurant and this really was horrible. Hopefully management gets their act together.

I have never seen such a poorly owned establishment. I do say owned specifically because the workers hustle. They are always severely understaffed leading to sloppy food, always out of key ingredients, the chips are always slate, the kitchen is always messy. I am not exaggerating when I say always. It was this way multiple times in a row and so we didn’t come back for a year because and thought giving it some time would help, and it’s still the exact same a year later. How disappointing when growing up the Cafe Rio in Draper Utah was one of the best restaurants out there, and now we have these awful establishments. Cafe Rio, whoever you let franchise this, I would strongly urge you let them go.. I garuntee you I could do a better job and I’d be happy to, please reach out. You will make always more money by having loyal returning customers than you will by penny pinching and cutting corners and ruining your brand name.

This is probably the worst restaurant experience of my life.
I ordered online at 6 o’clock
At 6:20 it said my order was ready

They did not give me my food until 7. Sat in the store for 40 minutes. I’m pretty patient. I finally kindly asked where my order was.

Here’s the funniest part
It was just two soups

Every young adult working at this place should quit. They cannot multitask. They need to find a different job. Simple as that

I have tried for years to give this location the benefit of the doubt but they cannot get their act together. Extremely slow, messy dining area, smaller portion sizes than other cafe rios, zero manager presence.
And don’t even think about ordering to pick up. You will receive half of your order and everything will be wrong. I love cafe rio but this is the worst one for sure.

Usually the managers are awesome and they fix whatever it is the staff messes up. This one staff making my order was rude and had zero commonsense. He kept messing up my order and overtaking me whenever I would attempt to correct him. I went ahead to pay for my to go order. I wanted to get out of there. My morning had been frustrating and having to deal with a rude employee was outrageous. I didn’t see a manager near by.
I got home with a saladless burrito :/

I never learn my lesson with this place. The last four or five experiences here have all been negative. The food is generally pretty good but there’s always something wrong with it.

The service is always terrible. To go orders are never on time, even when the restaurant is relatively empty. I arrived 10 minutes after it said that my order would be ready. There were no other to-go orders being worked on or waiting to be picked up. I checked in and was told it would be ready soon. The guy was leisurely preparing food and then he stopped to go out and fill up a drink for himself. He then went back to continue packaging the food. The entire time I was standing near the counter waiting. When it was done he said it on the left side and then went over to chat with his buddy. I waited a few more minutes before they finally decided to hand me my food. I was kind of in disbelief at the apathy.

The food was not prepared for the order. In the salad we got the very bottom rock hard piece of the stem of the head of lettuce. Seriously!? Whoever chops that should have been able to avoid putting that in.

I have heard from others about their bad experiences and when they have spoken to the manager the response was, “You say that you’re mad but you will be back.”
