We will NOT be returning to the Payson cafe rio location. The very few times that we have gone the food has been absolutely disgusting. I ordered the shredded chicken salad there was maybe 4 pieces of chicken, the lettuce was soggy like it has been sitting under a heat lamp for hours and the guacamole was the nasty black color. NOTHING was fresh! The house dressing was extremely runny and did NOT taste like it should! My husband ordered a fire grilled chicken burrito enchilada style it was ice cold and had hardly any sauce on top of it. Our kids quesadillas had very little to no cheese in them. When I called to file a complaint I was told that this location gets a lot of complaints due to quality of food. Something needs to change like there management. We got our money refunded thankfully. But if you want quality fresh food I would avoid this location at all costs! I was hopeful that since we last ordered from here, which was several months ago the food would have gotten better but somehow they managed to make it worse!

I’ve been going here for the past few years because Cafe Rio is one of my favorite fast food places. I constantly have had problems with my food not being
done on time when I order pick up. One of these times I waited inside for an hour and a half simply for only a queso and no more. I understand especially, as I work in the service industry, if it happens a few times, but it’s a consistent issue. Ordering by drive thru I’ve also faced multiple problems with food orders being incorrect.

Went through the drive through, asked for a smothered burrito/enchilada style, asked for no pico, yes to the lettuce and asked for cilantro then asked for a side of guac and tomatillo dressing. Didnt get dressing, guac or cilantro and got pico. Added my own sour cream once I was home since I didn’t get my dressing.

Update after a few bites. I don’t know how, maybe not enough liquid but the tortilla tasted stale and was crumbly. Quite a disappointment all around.

Cafe Rio has been one of my favorite restaurants since it opened. I love many of their diches. One of the things that attracted me at first was the fresh made tortillas. They have changed how they make them but they are just as good . The sauces that they have here are all mild at most to my taste buds so don’t be scared of any of them. Depending on what it is you like if you are more of a vegetable lover then you can go with a salad. If you are not as inclined you can choose anything else. This is a smaller restaurant but it stays pretty busy.

I go to this Cafe rio a lot. Usually its really good but lately its gone down hill. Ill order in the drive-through and they will forget part of my order 80% of the time and ill have to run back in and grab it. This last time I used my points and I was very upset. I usually get a burrito with lettuce and Pico on the side. This last time using my points, they hardly put any lettuce and Pico. For the price I pay often, im very annoyed that they charge so much and then skimp out on providing the actual meal.

We usually enjoy Cafe Rio, but our recent experience at the Payson drive-thru was a complete disaster. It felt like the staff simply didn’t care about the quality—or even the contents—of the food they were handing out.
The issues were across the board:
• Missing Meat: We ordered two burritos that were completely missing the protein. Having to bite into a meatless burrito (twice!) is unacceptable.
• Cold Food: The sweet pork on the salad was cold, which is a major disappointment for a signature dish.
• Inaccurate Sides: One meal was missing rice entirely and instead came with two scoops of beans. There was zero balance or attention to the order details.
• Sloppy Service: Every single order in our bag had a mistake.
It’s clear there is a major lack of supervision or care at this location. We won’t be returning to the Payson Cafe Rio after this experience.

I’ve only been here once since moving close by but I was definitely not impressed. I went through the drive thru. My daughters liked their kids-menu taco, burrito, and chicken quesadilla but my steak burrito was quite bad. It was surprisingly cold even though I had it enchilada-style. The shell did not taste or feel fresh and the whole thing was hard to choke down The lettuce and cilantro were terribly wilted like it had sat somewhere warm. I know tomatoes are out of season so I’ll cut them some slack here but their pico was pretty bad, too. Overall not sure that I’ll be returning much.

Check out this lettuce! Not eating it, but not a good feeling when you’re just praying that you don’t get sick from eating the food that was next to it.

Worst Location for Cafe Rio. There’s a reason their Google Reviews are 0.5-0.7 points lower than all other locations in the region. Avoid as much as you can. Costa Vida and Don Chuy’s are a block away.

The rot seems to go to the top of the staff, including the GM. They are passive aggressive, unkind, and dishonest. In one single visit, all of the following problems were experienced:

1. Repeatedly interrupted in the drive through while explaining my order, and dealt with unprofessionally
2. Told to park in the front of the building for “a couple minutes” while they finished cooking steak for my order, after waiting through the entire drive through line.
3. I waited there for 15min, wondering if they were trying to punish me for pushing back on their rudeness when placing my order.
4. When I asked them about what happened to “a couple of minutes,” I was told that it had only been 5-minutes, and refused to acknowledge the 15min additional wait time in my parked car.
5. No receipt was given: Potentially so that I did not leave them a bad review on the QR survey
6. Shorted various items: No salad dressing for the salad, virtually no Pico De Gallo on my burrito (pictured with literally maybe a half teaspoon of pico), only 1-2 tablespoons of shredded chicken provided in a tostada (also pictured exactly as received).
7. No napkins, no utensils provided
8. Double billed: Failure to cancel my original mobile order which they said they would do, as I was replacing it with the drive through order.

No apologies for the inconveniences, no warnings when ordering steak, that I would have to wait 15min additionally for it (which apparently only takes 5min to make based on what they said afterward), so that I could consider a different/ faster option. Things were so hostile with the staff, that it could very well have been intentional for them to make me wait so long and be shorted the various items in order to punish me. Hopefully they didn’t spit in it, but I couldn’t put it past them.

Made an online order at 5pm for 6:50pm, when I got there at 6:50 my order was in the queue, but it took over an hour from arriving to actually walking out with my food.

Even though I put in an online order and gave them almost 2 hours to make 5 meals, I ended up waiting over an hour to receive my order. All while watching people in the drive through and in the line get their food before me even when they hadn’t waited an hour.

And, the chips I purchased where less like tortilla chips and more like 2 day old popcorn that has been sitting on the counter.

Just go to Costa Vida, their menu is slightly less good, but their service is 1000x better.
