Went to this Cafe Rio on Sunday around 8:10pm with a group of 15 (they close at 10pm). As soon as we walked in, one of the workers got on the headset and warned everyone about us like we were a problem. Staff was whispering, clearly not happy to help.
When I ordered a red sauce enchilada, I was told they were out because the “sauce guy” was on break. Then the so-called manager, Ayanna, jumped in with a totally different story — that the sauce delivery comes the next day. Neither of them seemed to care about helping, just wanted us to leave.
The food line was a mess — crumbs, spills, just dirty overall. I’ve been coming here for 2 years and never seen it like this. We ended up canceling our order and went to the American Fork location instead, where they welcomed us with a smile and made great food.
Management at this location seriously needs to evaluate Ayanna’s professionalism and leadership. If this is the kind of experience guests get before closing time, you will absolutely lose loyal customers. Big difference in how the two locations treat people.
I hope I don’t get sick from this. Im nauseated thinking I was about to eat that. Sorry if you are nauseated just looking at it. I will never go to any Cafe Rio again. They’ve been bad for a while, it seems. Now I’ve decided to never give them business again. This is a joke at this point. Owner and manager should be ashamed.
Today I ordered a bowl with street corn, guac, cotija, no lettuce or pico. Received: bowl with sour cream?, no cheese of any kind, pico, lettuce, no street corn or guac. All of which I paid extra for, mind you. This is just one example of what happens every time I come. I’ve asked for sauce on the side, I receive the wrong kind of sauce NOT on the side. I asked for queso and I received a huge tub of enchilada sauce??? These employees are just free styling at this point. In addition they hand you all of your food upside down and sideways in the worst bags for the shape of containers the food comes in ever.
I know it’s my fault for continually returning back to a restaurant that does nothing but disappoint me but I think this is the last straw. Goodbye Pleasant Grove Cafe Rio.
Also, before the manager / owner gets on here to say “we take pride in the quality of our food or I hope you give us another chance” like they respond of everyone I think we would all like to know WHAT you are doing at cafe Rio to insure quality? What are you doing to change that would make any of us actually want to give you a second chance? Given that pretty much every review is saying the same thing I think there is some inner work to be done. Please inform us what steps you’re taking to make the pg pleasant grove experience worth spending our money at again.
Then there’s the wait. Our last drive-thru visit had us trapped for a full 20 minutes—no exaggeration—just to get our food. Twenty minutes for what should be quick fare is inexcusable. If this were a one-off flop, I’d shrug it off, but it’s a pattern. The staff seems indifferent, the execution sloppy, and the experience draining. For comparison, the Café Rio five-ten minutes down the road actually delivers what you’d expect: decent portions and service that doesn’t test your patience. Save yourself the frustration and skip this location.
UPDATE: Can it get any worse? I just found a hair at the bottom of my food. Disgusting.
