We used to eat at Cafe Rio regularly and genuinely enjoyed the food, which makes writing this disappointing.

Over the past few years, we have repeatedly visited during peak dinner hours, usually between 5:00 and 6:30pm, only to find they are completely out of grilled chicken. Not once or twice. This has happened so often I have lost count. What is even more concerning is that when this happens, there often is not even chicken on the grill cooking to restock. The grill is visible to customers, so it is easy to see when nothing is being prepared.

Running out of a core protein during dinner rush and not actively preparing more feels like a basic operational issue that should be preventable, especially when this has been an ongoing pattern for years.

To be fair, one of the earlier times this happened, a manager apologized and we gave them grace. But when it is happening nearly half the time we visit, it stops feeling like an occasional oversight and starts feeling like a consistent lack of planning.

It also makes me wonder how this impacts delivery orders. If someone orders grilled chicken through DoorDash, are they waiting 20 to 30 minutes for more to be cooked? Or are substitutions being made without customers realizing?

This seems like a simple inventory and timing fix, yet it has continued for years. We really enjoyed coming here, but consistently being unable to order a very common menu item during dinner has made it hard to keep giving it chances.

I don’t usually write bad reviews but this place was filthy! The drink area was disgusting. Dust and grime on the floors and on the soda dispensers. I’m not sure where the manager was but this place desperately needs one. My wife’s lettuce was soggy and old. Won’t be going to this location again.

We come here at least 3 times a week and I have this problems multiple times! And today I said well better write hopefully a manager or even owner can see this and fix this !
The two young white ladies are terribles such a sassy and disrespectful ! Since we are in line she said “ what do you want “ and we asked our bowl and she poor a little spoon of chicken and we asked hey please put the right amount and she “claim that’s ! “ we asked for extra chicken and she even just poor a little more !
Them she call her body friend co worker what ever it’s and she said “ take over and roll over her eyes “ the second one was even worse and both just throwing our food and don’t even talking at all ! Such a extremely bad actitud and behave
I can keep going in detail but my point its making sure any manager or owner see it and realized how bad those two young ladies are doing to their business !
Food it’s getting bad every time! This must be a wake up call and they can fix if and be again a great place to eat one more time ! With all
Competition around they must act fast !

We frequent this place every time we drive past Castle Rock. Our appreciation for Cafe Rio goes back ~10 years and we appreciate having the option in Colorado!

Depending on when you come, the restaurant can be pretty busy. That’s a good thing after all! Who wants to eat at an empty restaurant!?

What we enjoy is the consistency in quality and service we get every time.

The food is always fresh and because of the popularity it stays fresh throughout the day.

Everything is prepared here at the time it is served.

We’ve probably tried everything on the menu and never been disappointed. Our favorites are the chicken and pork salads. Today we also got a kids quesadilla to hold us over u til we could get to enjoy our salads and that was absolutely delicious too!

Given the flexibility to add what you want you can make your meal vegetarian or gluten free also.

The staff is great and they all work hard and fast.

This location has an outside seating area, alongside the inside, air conditioned salon. It’s only a few moments off of I-25, so very easy to get to and right next to the Castle Rock outlets in case you need anything else to do.

Overall, we will continue coming back here until we have a Cafe Rio closer to where we live!

We love Cafe Rio, however this location was not up to par with those we have been to. We orders a sweet pork nachos which looked good when we got it but the chips were a hit and miss. Some were really stale and others were good. We had some that seemed really soggy. We ordered them the same as we do at all the other locations, but this time it wasn’t as good. My husband had the tacos and loved them. The staff was really nice.

The staff acted as if we were an inconvenience, aside from one young man doing his best to serve everyone. One of our meals was grilled chicken, the head chef wouldn’t cook more when we ordered even though it was an hour before closing, so the lady in the line went back and cooked it but the chicken was raw and the burrito inedible. 1 quesadilla with a side of ranch and a drink was $17 and only half the quesadilla ended up having meat in it. I’ve had good experiences at other Cafe Rio’s but I will not be returning to this location.

This place is really disappointing. I had a former coworker tell me about Cafe Rio who said it was really good and was way better than Costa Vida. I wanted to like this place, but I went there three times (each time spaced out half a year plus) and each time was pretty much the same. Overpriced, low quality food that wasn’t fresh (I did dine-in all three times).

This place is just like Costa Vida, except Costa Vida is 10x better. The only thing worth getting here is the sweet pork barbacoa which tastes decent, but even then Costa Vida’s sweet pulled pork is better. The pico de gallo isn’t too bad for a fast food place either, but I’ve had much better.

We were waiting to get our to go order at the Castle Rock restaurant and a girl, who works there is cutting up some meat and proceeds to tell her coworkers how she hates customers who come in and ask for gluten free options. Need to train your employees better on etiquette when talking in front of customers and educate them that people who have gluten intolerances can become very ill if they have gluten. It’s not a fad diet. If you don’t like customers asking you about gluten free options then maybe you should not work in the restaurant industry.

Cafe Rio is always great. It feeds the family for under $50 and we take food home. It will always be our go-to.
We appreciate seeing the teenagers working hard at this location. They are always friendly and fulfil orders well!

They are currently running a buy a $25 gift card get a $5 gift card free promotion. I bought a $30 gift card and they would not honor the $5 promotion. A quesadilla comes with no sides unless you want “salad stuff” according to the guy helping me. So a burrito gets rice, beans, and veggies, while a quesadilla get lettuce and salsa (which the burrito also gets included) and costs more than the burrito. Horrible value. The seasonal drink was out. They were out of gift card holders. The answer I got from the girl rining me up multiple times was “I genuinely don’t know, I just started my shift.” When she did call the manager to the register about the $5 promotional gift card, the manager said “it’s only for $25” and then walked away. I won’t be back.
