Salmon Toast: The bread was nice and crispy, and the dill added a fresh touch. The flavors were mild, and while it was pleasant, I kept wishing for a little more punch — capers would’ve been a perfect addition to round it out.
Salad with Egg: This was underwhelming. The salad itself was fresh but lacked bold flavors, and the egg on top didn’t add much — it felt like an afterthought. I had a tough time tasting the bacon.
Steak, Eggs, & Polenta: The steak tasted like a braised chuck cut — tender and flavorful, but not the crispy, seared steak I was hoping for. The eggs were fine but could have used more seasoning. The polenta was decent — creamy and comforting.
Bonus: They gave me a free cookie, which was a nice touch.
Overall: The service was good and the space was inviting, but the food was not very flavorful. A little more seasoning could really elevate the dishes.
Their fresh pizza from the wood-fired oven looked amazing, but we opted for the trout and baguette, cucumber salad, and ricotta and toast. Every dish was incredible and so fresh. The trout was perfectly cooked, the cucumber salad was crisp and refreshing, and the ricotta and toast was a delightful start to our meal. The freshness and quality of the ingredients really stood out.
The ambiance of Cafe Olli is perfect for a relaxed meal. The staff were friendly and attentive, making our experience even better. It’s easy to see why this place is so highly regarded. We were so impressed with the quality and flavor of everything we tried.
If you’re in Portland and looking for a fantastic spot for breakfast or lunch, I highly recommend Cafe Olli. We had an amazing time and will definitely be back to try their pizza next time. This place has definitely become a new favorite of ours!
I’ll start by saying the space is quite lovely. There’s an open kitchen, soft lighting, and it’s a quaint setting with some table seating inside and additional outdoor space. It feels warm, elegant and homey.
Service overall was pretty good. I believe there was some training going on. But they were attentive and helpful in navigating the menu.
Now to the food/drink. Started the meal with some passion fruit margaritas which were decent but completely lacking in the passion department. From what I could tell there wasn’t much if any hint of passion fruit coming through. It looked like a general margarita and tasted like it, which was a bit of a let down given how it was advertised. They also weren’t filled to the level I would have expected which was odd for a $15 drink.
We wound up trying all 4 pizzas on the menu which is not huge so keep that in mind. The crust was tasty and pizzas were well cooked. Some of the flavors just weren’t all there for me. The sausage was the favorite of the night. I wanted to love the Brussel and potato but the overwhelming amount of mustard seed unfortunately was tough to compete with and overpowered the pie. The other two pizzas were both solid but didn’t blow me away.
Overall it was a nice evening but given the smaller menu I probably wouldn’t rush back for a round two unless in the area.
