Cafe Moderno is a family-owned Mediterranean and Greek restaurant just off the 10 Freeway in Montclair, CA, near Upland and Claremont. We serve grilled kabobs, Moderno-style souvlaki, wraps, fresh salads, house-made dips, pasta and panini. Was recommended to visit this location and quite frankly do not think I will return. I ordered the gyro plate and everything came in about 3 seperate containers. The wait was about 30 minutes to take the food to go. The meat did not taste like lamb or beef and tasted like it was frozen and warmed up in a microwave, not fresh at all. I barely got around 3 uneven little slices of pita and a tiny 1 oz cup of Tzatziki, that didn’t taste fresh either. I also ordered a tiramisu that had no pick me up and no coffee flavor at all, and I also purchased a baklava, my baklava was dry with no syrup to cut the nuts. Overall the experience and food weren’t pleasant.

First visit. Just a random google search for Medit food close by. It might be me buuuut, we were after some kafta & maybe steak kabobs and some garlic fries, pita and hummus. Usual Mediterranean fare I think, they didn’t have the kafta. Or, the minced garlic and oil fries.
We ordered steak kabob medium rare, pita & hummus, and regular fries settling for aioli dip.
The steak was flavorful buuuut overcooked no pink at all! A lil chewy cuz of that.
Those factors are the reason for 4 stars. The pita and hummus were excellent!! The bread didn’t harden while sitting and eating either!
Fries were cooked fine & the aioli dip was very good as well.
The service was very good. They acknowledged us when we came in and gave us time to peruse the menu. Didn’t feel hurried as if we were supposed to know it already.
She brought the food out as it was ready and checked back. We didn’t have time to wait on another steak kabob and it was edible so we just ate it.
Bright environment, not some dank cave. Booth seat was good & we didn’t fall into some hole!
Overall good menu options for sure!

I’ve eaten here at least 10+ plus times. Food is consistently delicious and owner is very nice. Food is slightly more expensive but you can definitely taste the quality in the food. Also order ahead because it takes about 15 to 20 mins to have your order out. Definitely not a negative because your food is made to order. Thanks guys.

I got the Chicken Souvlaki plate with Greek salad and Baba ganoush and hummus, little sude of tzatziki. This was such an excellent meal. Deliciously seasoned and everything was so fresh. The pita is slightly toasted and that made me eat more of it than I meant to. I will definitely be back even though it’s not that close to me!

First experience coming here. Daughter ordered the gyro wrap. Wife ordered chicken and Greek salad. I ordered the gyro plate with potatoes and grilled vegetables. Everything was tasty. The chicken and gyro were cooked just right. Not dry at all. The vegetables were fresh. I asked my family if they would want to come back and they both agreed they would like to come back. Staff was friendly. The place is bigger on the inside than it looks. Give a try if you are interested in trying something different.

Ordered a Grilled steak wrap combo which included a side to choose from salad, soup or fries. I chose Lentil Soup and wooow!! The best lentils soup I have ever tried. I will come back only for the soup. The wrap was good in size and had great flavor too. The only reason I give 4 stars is because the meat was a little bit too hard for my taste but that could only be me. I highly recommend this place.

My husband had the Cobb salad with grill chicken kabob. The salad was fresh and delicious with a perfect amount of vinegrette. I had the grilled chicken pita minus the red onions and a bowl of lentil soup. Seriously the best pita with quality chicken I’ve ever had. The lentil soup was so good. Lentil soup is my favorite and usually I only eat my mom’s but I’m so glad I tried it here. Perfect portions of food and this place definitely beats the surrounding fast food places. The inside is super clean and so are the restrooms. We opted to eat outside in the little patio area, again very clean outside too. Also, the tea tastes great and they have crushed ice! This is my new spot for lunch. I highly recommend you give this place a try, you won’t be disappointed.
Update: Wrote this review 3 months ago and as of today we’re still frequenting Cafe Moderno. Still the best spot for a fantastic lunch!
