A Montevideo favourite for more than 25 years, Café Misterio serves an extensive sushi and sashimi menu (reputed to be the best in the Uruguayan capital)

Salmon Barroco is the best I’ve ever had. The white wine by the glass is truly the worst I’ve ever tasted. Service is generally great (although I’d never let my servers charge for a wine the customer did not like) but these girls are working hard and pleasant all the while. Only 3* on food because I am a wine person and it was horrific. Would suggest purchasing a bottle (I was one person, so did not)

We loved the selection of sushi and steak in some fantastic platters. Great, somewhat NYC style, atmosphere in the venue.

Soft ambiance with a kind of NY style. Good choice of food, local but also sashimi revisited cevice style. Very good cuisine. Good choice of wine (prefer tannat for red local wine). Staff is very kind, very professional A place I recommend. Carasco area

Interesting and creative food, just not overly well executed. Nothing bad, but nothing impressed.

The Misterio Ribeye was cooked to a perfect medium, and the first bite revealed a burst of smoky and robust flavors. The seasoning was unique, with a blend of herbs and spices that added a layer of complexity to the steak. The meat itself was tender and juicy, offering a delightful dining experience that kept me engaged with every bite.

Very good food. Definitely come if you want some fusion between local food and good international dishes. And the environment Is also good – low light, low volume music, intimate tables.

My wife and I ate at Cafe Misterio tonight for our final meal in Uruguay before traveling back to the United States. It was also our wedding anniversary that we were celebrating. The service was absolutely wonderful. Even though our Spanish was very limited, everyone was kind, welcoming, and made our dinner experience most memorable. Thank you Cafe Misterio and thank you to our lovely waitress. 5 stars all the way!!!

Really cute neighborhood restaurant. We stumbled in early the evening we subbed in Montevideo. The food was delicious with subs of the best most interesting nigiri we had while traveling.

The food and atmosphere here are always reliably very good. The sushi is well above average for Montevideo. Excellent wine selection (ask for cellar specials if you are particular; they have some lovely bottles that dont feature on the menu). One of the three consistently best restaurants in Carrasco, in my opinion. It is very popular on weekends, so better to make a booking if you dont plan to be in and out before 9 pm (they open at 7 pm, and for lunch) . Honestly, all things considered, the only downside is that it is somewhat pricey (dinner will run you about $40 per person). Note 01/21: During January 2021, COVID has reduced capacity to 50%, and people in the restaurant by more. Support our local restaurants!!!
