The staff at Cafe Mexicali overcharged me for a meal. I ordered a burrito with corn chips and guac but was charged for 4 add ons. When I told them about the mistake they then proceeded to argue with me for about 15 minutes defending the overages. When a manager finally arrived he told the girl to refund the extra charge and she paid me back in pennies and nickels to be petty. Very rude staff and I’m extremely disappointed I choose to eat here.

Been coming here for a few years, by far the best spot in Boulder for a good burrito. The only thing to question here is the cleanliness, as there have been a couple times that flies swarmed around the soda machine. I even found a few of them in the ice itself, but that’s not terribly common.
Additionally, the plastic silverware here has super low durability. I recommend grabbing a few of the same type so you don’t have to keep grabbing more
All in all, an excellent place. Will definitely keep coming here!

Best Mexican food in Boulder, hands down. this is authentic stuff, and it’s all fresh and homemade. Their nachos, enchiladas, creamy habanero sauce, and sweet pork are things that I long for every time I eat at a Mexican restaurant away from Colorado. I moved away from Boulder for a bit and Cafe Mex was legitimately a significant factor motivating me to come back. If you EVER go to Chipotle in Boulder when the authentic Cafe Mex with their lovely people are right down the road, I shame you.

Rating exclusively for the breakfast burritos. I commute into Boulder from Denver a couple of days a week, and this place is well with a stop – better than what I can find near me in Denver. I think the key is their homemade tortillas. Flavorful, fresh, delicious. Great vegetarian breakfast burrito.

Great food! However poor customer service. They messed up my burrito which was $15 and so I asked them to remake it which they did but with attitude and gave me a smaller burrito. Not cool, especially for the price. These businesses in Colorado need to learn customer service or they will get no business from me and mine.

The food is very questionable. The chicken taste like it came from a can, very rubbery and flavorless. Everything was extremely bland and not like any Mexican food I’ve ever had. Employees were very nice and my order was ready when I came in for pick up. The food was just not really edible.

Tortilla was really good and thats the only positive I have. Everything else was overly sweet and there was not much other flavor. The “steak” was not like what the pictures online showed. I got very sick shortly after eating.

Truly no better place in Boulder to go for Mexican food; amazing environment with beautiful views of the front range, amazing food at an even better price, and you’ll always have leftovers to take home. They really give you the most bang for your buck. Highly recommend the queso dip

They food is great. I especially like how big the burritos are. Definitely enough for me to eat half and save the rest for later for a snack!! Also has to be smothered in creamy habanero and green chili sauces

Already dug in, unfortunately, but everything was freshly prepared and tasty. The pork may have been a little too sweet for me, even for sweet pork, and the soup that we got teetered on the salty side. The interior is very clean and welcoming, and the staff all seem super nice, except for one grouchy-looking abuela. The prices are ever-so-slightly on the expensive side, but I would say worth it for the quality and taste. I definitely recommend to give it a try. 4.5 if half stars were available.
