Solid spot for pork tonkatsu! We ordered the pork cutlet set for only $14 (as of Feb 2026), it came with white rice and miso soup. Generous portion size. The cutlet is juicy, thick, and tender, almost melting in your mouth. The sauce is outstanding, and the salad is refreshing, drizzled with a sweet and savory dressing that complements the meal well. We will come back!

It’s located inside Lesley University Porter Campus. Cash is preferred, but credit cards are accepted.

Food was phenomenal. Prices were excellent.
The solo waitress was a beast… she did a fantastic job. The seating situation is far from ideal, but I love that they are working with what they got in the best way. Definitely a comfort type restaurant.

We ordered shrimp dumplings – Crispy Shumai (see photo) – excellent.
Chicken Tatsuta- original (photo) – cooked perfectly, moist.
And Yaki Don (photo) – great meat /rice ratio!

This place is worth a wait. We lucked out and didn’t have a wait, but I can see a wait happening frequently. I will be happy to wait next time I’m in the neighborhood!

I ordered the tatsuda set. The Miso and salad are the usual. The rockin (or whatever the spicy one is, but it wasn’t very spicy) chicken is very tender, and the potato and candied carrots (side appetizer, not pictured) were great. The dining area is a little small, probably better for smaller groups. the staff were very friendly and the portions are very large. Probably best value meal in Boston, very unpretentious and cozy food.

The food portions are big and the taste is very good. The price is excellent and the service is amazing. It was a new experience for me and I really enjoyed trying Japanese food. I got to know a different type of cuisine and I would definitely recommend it. The chicken was tender, crispy, and had an excellent flavor. I would love to come back again

They reopen midday and 4 minutes past that all tables are full. Everyone is ordering the fried chicken curry rice. We did too and it was good. Our order came with miso soup and small salad. Miso soup did not have any solid ingredient in it. The curry sauce was amazing and i wish i have tried thait beef curry as it is more similar to authentic japanese curry rice. The waitress/hostess is doing her best to keep up with the orders, I just wish there were a better way of communicating to the chefs other than yelling all the time

Fast, friendly service. Delicious curry and other Japanese street food accompanied by yummy miso soup.

I like to grab a seat at the counter and fill up with a quick meal before continuing on with my day.

Great food at affordable prices. I’m so pleased that Cafe Mami is still open after all these years! Highly recommend. The lunch specials are a tremendous value.

No longer cash only! This tucked away eatery serves delicious curries and chicken cutlets. Feels like a legit Japan-style restaurant where you can get a comfortable, familiar meal, by yourself or with friends and family. Delicious sesame salad and miso soup! The red pickled radishes with the curry were best. Attentive service and dishes are served at just the right pace. Plus enough for two meals!

This restaurant is labeled as a Japanese restaurant, and although it serves Japanese-style cuisine, the flavors are likely to appeal to Koreans as well.
Despite having only one server, they manage the work exceptionally well and are very friendly.
Personally, I enjoy the pork cutlet curry set, and the Hamburg steak and Yaki don are also delicious.
The restaurant is not large and has limited seating, so there may be a wait during lunch or dinner hours.
Additionally, the prices are relatively affordable.

It’s been 20+ years since the last of many many visits to my then favorite restaurant. It was in a mall with Japanese supermarket and shops. Now, the vibe is different and low maybe because Lesley college took over and repel customers and cast dim light inside the building. Food is great and kept up the high quality.
